On October 27, 1928, Private Albert J. Greiner of Engine Company 27, died in the line of duty, while on a detail at the Fox Theater F St and 14th St NW, now the National Press Building.
Today, members gathered to dedicate a Memorial Helmet in his memory.

At 1634 hours, Units with the 2nd Battalion were alerted to the 1400 block of Eastern Ave NE for an apartment. 27 Engine responded first due and arrived on side Alpha of 3 story, ordinary apartment building, semi detached, with smoke showing on side Alpha of the top floor. The Demons found an apartment off in the Delta quadrant with extension to the adjacent apartment.

At 1546 hours, Units with the 2nd Battalion were alerted to the 3500 block of Jay St, NE for an apartment. 27 Engine responded first due and arrived to find a 3 story, middle of the row apartment building, with smoke showing from the top floor. The Demons found an apartment off on the 3rd floor, with extension to the cockloft and adjacent apartment.

At 0240 hours, Units with the 2nd Battalion were alerted to the 4000 block of Benning Rd, NE for a house. 27 Engine responded first due and arrived on side Alpha of a two story end of the row with fire showing from the second floor. A task force was added due to extending to adjacent houses and it being a vacant building from a previous fire. This was the first working fire of the year for DCFD and the last fire foBrian Thrasherter .thrasher of Engine 10.
27 Engine #2 platoon took in a first due fire in the early hours of the morning.
At 1034 hours, 27 Engine was alerted to a Local for a MVA in the 1600 block of Kenilworth Ave, NE. While responding, updates came in for a vehicle on fire with one trapped. The Demons arrived at Burroughs Ave and Kenilworth Ave, NE to find the same, and pulled one subject from the vehicle. Then extinguished the fire. Two patients were transported.

At 1949 hours, Units with Battalion 2 were alerted to the 3500 block of Minnesota Ave, NE. 27 Engine responded 2nd due. Units arrived to find a 3 story ordinary apartment building with fire in a lower level apartment.
