Happy 4th of July...and be safe this weekend.

Thomas Jefferson drafted the Declaration of Independence over 17 days in June, 1776. John Adams, Benjamin Franklin, and the rest of the Committee of Five make 47 changes to the document. Jefferson then delivers a draft of the declaration on June 28. Congress edits the document, cutting a quarter of the words, making an additional 39 changes.

HEA master's student Tim Rabolt has been awarded the George Washington Award for his outstanding contributions to GW. He will be recognized during GW's 2016 Commencement ceremony this Sunday on the National Mall. Mr. Rabolt founded the group Students for Recovery during his undergraduate studies at GW and has continued to strengthen the group during his graduate studies at GSEHD. Students for Recovery raises awareness about mental illness and addiction so that GW students know that they are not alone in their struggles. Dr. Daniel Klasik was awarded a National Academy of Education/Spencer Postdoctoral Fellowship. The National Academy of Education/Spencer Postdoctoral Program supports early career scholars working in critical areas of education research.
