As we celebrate the U.S. Army’s 250th birthday, we honor the legacy of service and the international heroes whose contributions helped build the Army we know today.
Baron Friedrich von Steuben, a Prussian Army officer, played a pivotal role in shaping the U.S. Army into a professional fighting force.
Volunteering to serve in the American Colonies, von Steuben became the Continental Army’s inspector general and, in 1778, authored the Army’s first official drill manual—famously known as the “Blue Book.” This manual standardized training and discipline, laying the foundation for the modern U.S. Army. His work influenced military tactics well into the 19th century.
As General Washington’s chief of staff and trusted advisor, von Steuben’s leadership and legacy remain vital to our Army’s history. After the war, he became a U.S. citizen and lived in New York until his passing in 1794. 🇺🇸🇩🇪

Last weekend, the Eighth Army Brass Band performed at the annual Hwaseong Boating Festival at Jeongok Port! The festival offered a wide variety of maritime activities including sailing demonstrations, yacht rides, and marine cable cars. The Brass Band shared a performance with performing groups and members of the local community as they led them in a parade to their final performances.

The Eighth Army Brass Band recently had the honor of performing at the 2025 Hwaseong World Culture Festival—a vibrant celebration of diverse cultures and languages. Through the universal language of music, the brass band transcended cultural boundaries, touching hearts and forging meaningful connections with everyone in attendance.

🇰🇷 In Honor of Korean Memorial Day (현충일)

Beneath the flag, we pause and pray,
For those who gave their lives away.
Their courage built the peace we know —
Their memory lights the path we go. ~Unknown

Korean Memorial Day, observed annually on June 6, is a deeply meaningful and solemn day in South Korea. It honors the men and women who sacrificed their lives in military service for the country, particularly during the Korean War (1950–1953) and in other conflicts and national service.

We remember. We are grateful.
