Was great to stop by Little Rock Regional Chamber’s Metro Real Estate Update to discuss my 21st Century ROAD to Housing Act and our work in Congress to expand housing opportunities, cut unnecessary red tape, and make homeownership more attainable for hardworking Arkansas families.

Three years ago, Hamas terrorists launched a barbaric attack on Israel that killed more than 1,200 people and took more than 250 others hostage. Among those murdered and captured were dozens of American citizens.

The brutal attack followed years of backing, intelligence sharing, and training by the number one state sponsor of terror in the Middle East and around the world: Iran.

Today, on this solemn anniversary, we remember the victims of that horrific day and pray for their families. We also reaffirm our unwavering commitment to working with our friends and allies to eliminate the threat posed by Iran and its terrorist proxies so that an attack like October 7th never happens again.

Public housing should provide safe, quality homes for the families who rely on it.

But as we have seen too often here in central Arkansas, when housing authorities are mismanaged and oversight fails, it’s the residents who pay the price.

My Committee has investigated troubled housing authorities, held hearings, pressed HUD for answers, and advanced reforms to demand greater accountability. Today, we released a new report laying out additional steps to strengthen oversight, improve housing quality, and protect residents and taxpayers.

I was glad to host HUD Assistant Secretary Ben Hobbs in Little Rock today to discuss those findings and how HUD and Congress can strengthen accountability across these programs. I appreciate him and his team making the trip to Arkansas and his commitment to getting results for residents and taxpayers.

Since I was elected to Congress, I’ve had the opportunity to see more than 100 apps created by talented students across Arkansas’s Second Congressional District. Each year, I’m impressed by the creativity and innovation our students bring to solving real-world problems through technology.

The Congressional App Challenge gives middle and high school students the opportunity to put their coding skills to the test by designing an original app using the platform and programming language of their choice.

Great to visit Shorter College in North Little Rock this week and talk with President Jeffery Norfleet and his team about the incredible work they are doing to make sure our students are ready for the future.

The first of four meetings of my 2026–2027 Future Leaders class is in the books!

We were glad to welcome Arkansas Supreme Court Justice Nick Bronni, who spoke with students about the Constitution and the three branches of government.

I joined the leaders of Arkansas’s four HBCUs at Philander Smith University yesterday to celebrate more than $4 million in new federal funding for HBCUs in our state.
 
This funding is an important step, but our work does not stop there. I’m continuing to fight for our HBCUs by:

✅Leading the bipartisan IGNITE HBCU Excellence Act to strengthen campus infrastructure, workforce development, and research capacity.

✅Advancing the HBCU Research Capacity Act to help HBCUs identify federal grant opportunities and compete for more research funding.

As Co-Chair of the Congressional HBCU Caucus, I have been a strong advocate for our HBCUs for over a decade, and I will continue working to ensure these critical institutions have the support they need to serve our HBCU students for generations to come.

Our HBCUs are engines of opportunity, and I’m grateful for the leadership of the four great HBCUs here in central Arkansas and their commitment to preparing the next generation of leaders.

Great news for Little Rock and central Arkansas!

ICYMI: I joined local leaders on Friday to announce a $4.5 million EDA grant for infrastructure improvements at the Port of Little Rock.

The Port is one of our greatest economic development assets, with tremendous untapped potential. I’ve worked for over decade to remove barriers to development and put that potential to work for central Arkansans.

This investment will improve access to the Port and help bring more businesses, investment, and jobs to our communities.

EDA estimates the project could create 1,050 new jobs and generate more than $1 billion in private investment.

Excited to see this move forward and keep the momentum going.
