MONSIGNOR’S REFLECTION FOR -TWENTY-NINTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME

Whose Image Do We Bear? In a military community, a uniform tells us something about a person’s service and responsibilities. But beneath every rank and title is a deeper identity: we are made in the image of God.

In this Sunday’s Gospel, Jesus’ opponents ask whether it is lawful to pay taxes to Caesar. Recognizing their trap, Jesus asks whose image appears on the coin. “Caesar’s,” they reply. He then tells them to give Caesar what belongs to Caesar and God what belongs to God. The coin bears Caesar’s image. But whose image do we bear? We bear God’s image. We belong to him. This does not lessen our responsibilities to our
country, our families, or our community. It gives those responsibilities a deeper purpose. Faith shapes how we serve, how we lead, how we treat others, and how we respond when doing the right thing comes at a cost.
For our military families, service often means long hours, deployments, separation, and uncertainty. God sees those sacrifices. Yet amid every duty, he invites us to make room for prayer, worship, and the relationships entrusted to our care.

This week, ask yourself: Where do I need to give God more of myself?

At every Mass, Jesus gives himself to us. May we respond by offering him our hearts and allowing his love to guide our service. The coin bore Caesar’s image. We bear God’s. May we live each day, remembering to whom we belong.

Doctors at Gemelli Hospital removed a cancerous tumor from Pope Leo XIV’s right lung, according to the Holy See Press Office. The surgery was successful, with no complications, and the Holy Father has returned to his hospital room.
We ask the faithful to continue praying for Pope Leo’s recovery and for the doctors and staff caring for him. We also hold in prayer all who are living with cancer, their families, and those who care for them.
