Passage of the Transportation Security Screening Modernization Act is a win for our nation’s essential transportation workforce. Thanks to this legislation, these hard-working men and women will no longer be burdened with duplicative background checks and fees that do nothing to increase safety or security. The bill will also help keep critical supply chains moving. IME applauds the work of House and Senate leadership to pass this important legislation and make the lives of our transportation workers a little easier.
We urge President Biden to sign this bill without delay.

It may surprise you to hear that one of the biggest challenges in the commercial explosives industry is finding drivers with a CDL.
That’s why IME sent a letter in support of bipartisan legislation introduced by Representatives Abigail Spanberger (D-VA-7) and Mike Gallagher (R-WI-8) which would provide incentives to hire and retain CDL drivers. The Strengthening Supply Chains Through Truck Driver Incentives Act would provide a $7,500 tax credit for each qualified licensed commercial truck driver and up to $10,000 in tax credits to each individual registered in trucking apprenticeships.
In addition to supporting the legislation, IME urged the bill sponsors to amend the legislation by adding Class B drivers to those eligible for the tax incentives. Class B drivers are specially trained and certified to transport hazardous materials – which includes commercial explosives. The legislation as introduced only allows for drivers with Class A CDLs to be available for the tax incentives.

Last Friday, Rep. Jake Ellzey visited with IME members DynaEnergetics and the Halliburton - Jet Research Center.
As a member of Congress from Texas, Congressman Ellzey shared his priority for increased energy production. While visiting both facilities, Congressman Ellzey learned of the unique role that explosives play in not just the production of traditional sources of energy like coal, oil and gas which are important to the state of Texas, but also in the production of modern and renewable sources of energy for today’s low-carbon economy.
Thank you to DynaEnergetics and the JRC for hosting Congressman Ellzey and advocating for the needs of the commercial explosives industry.

In the Washington, D.C. region, over 1.2 million people are food insecure and over one-third of them are children.
Yesterday, the IME team helped bag 875 meals for senior citizens living in Montgomery County, Maryland, just outside of Washington, D.C.
Thank you to the Capital Area Food Bank for allowing us the opportunity to give back to our community.
