Meet AALEAD (Asian American LEAD), one of our FY26 Community Grant recipients supporting Asian American and Pacific Islander youth and families across DC and our region.
For more than 25 years, AALEAD has empowered AAPI youth through culturally-responsive mentorship, after-school programs, and leadership development and advocacy for underserved communities.
This AANHPI Heritage Month, we are proud to highlight organizations like AALEAD that are helping build stronger, more inclusive communities and expanding opportunities for the next generation of DC youth.
The District remains committed to investing in diversity, equity, and community-based organizations who continue to make a lasting impact across all eight wards.ย
Good news! Our FY27 Community Grant applications are now open โ€” learn more at communityaffairs.dc.gov/content/community-grant-program

MOAPIA, in partnership with Barracks Row Main Street, convened AANHPI entrepreneurs and community members for a panel discussion and networking mixer centered on small business growth and community building. The conversation highlighted the vital role AANHPI-owned businesses play in strengthening local neighborhoods and fostering economic opportunity.

As we close out AANHPI Heritage Month, join MOAPIA for a reflective community writing workshop that brings together storytelling, identity, and healing.
This session invites participants to explore and reconnect with their AANHPI and Pride identities through guided writing exercises and shared reflection. Itโ€™s a space to slow down, express, and honor the stories that shape who we are.
The workshop will be facilitated by Lavau Nalu, a Blak storyteller and visual curator with Archive Ples, a community storytelling platform based in Papua New Guinea.ย
Come write, reflect, and close out the month in community with us.
