🏆🌸WASHINGTON, WE DID IT! 🌸🏆

We’re bringing home three reasons to celebrate from the 2026 America in Bloom Symposium in Washington, D.C.!

🪴 Eye-Popping Pots – Best Use of Containers in the Landscape
🌸 Recognition for our community’s Floral Impact
🏆 Overall winner in our population category

As Washington has grown, we’ve moved into a larger population category alongside two incredible communities: Tavares, Florida, and Greenwood, South Carolina. Congratulations to you both! We’ve seen how much care you put into your communities, and you should be so proud. 👏

We also came home with fresh ideas and inspiration. Hearing what other communities are working on, where they’ve struggled, and how they’ve overcome obstacles reminded us how much we can learn from one another.

To our volunteers, City staff, community partners, and residents: kudos to all of us! Your hard work and dedication make Washington the beautiful, vibrant place we love. Washington wouldn’t be the same without all of us working together.

Congratulations, Washington! This is our win! 💚

🌿 Washington in Bloom is in Washington, D.C.!

Some of our Washington in Bloom committee members are attending the annual America in Bloom Symposium this week, and today’s adventures took us through Prince George’s County!

We learned so much about the area’s local art, history, environmental efforts, and how thoughtful landscaping can completely transform a community. Of course, we couldn’t help noticing all the beautiful planters and urban tree plantings along the way! 🌳🌺 Plants have such an incredible way of softening an urban landscape and making spaces feel more welcoming, vibrant, and alive.

One of the most fascinating parts of the day was learning about restoration efforts along the Potomac River, including the reintroduction of native freshwater mussels. 🐚💧 These little ecosystem helpers naturally filter the water, and combined with years of work from local communities and conservation groups, efforts to restore native species and habitats are helping improve waterways that were once heavily polluted.

So much art, history, nature, and inspiration packed into one day, and plenty of ideas to bring back home to Washington, Missouri! 💚🌿

🦋 LOOK UP, WASHINGTON! 🦋

The monarch migration is moving through! We spotted large numbers flying high overhead this evening, and around 6:30 they began roosting in trees around Washington for the night. 🧡🌳

Keep your eyes on the sky over the next few days, you just might catch a wave of monarchs making their way south! 🦋🦋🦋

🐦🌸 THE TRAIL IS CHANGING… ARE YOU WATCHING? 👀🍂

We’re right on the edge of a season change, and this week is looking perfect for exploring the Riverfront Trail!

There’s still SO much blooming 🌸, but the birds are already on the move. Fall migration means some familiar faces are leaving, others are just passing through, and our winter visitors are starting to arrive.

🐦 Your challenge: How many different birds can you spot?

Listen. Look along the river. Check the trees. And most importantly… LOOK UP! We spotted an oriole nest on our morning walk!

Flowers blooming, birds migrating and something new around every turn, you never know what you’ll discover out there. 💚

09/20/2026

If you’re workin’ 9 to 5 tomorrow… don’t let that be your whole day. 😉

Before you clock in or after you clock out, hit the Riverfront Trail! 🌿The weather is going to be PERFECT, the flowers are still blooming, and the birds are on the move.

The trail is calling. ☀️
