⚠️ SCAM ALERT ⚠️

We've received reports of residents getting phone calls from people claiming to collect donations for DVFR. These calls are NOT from us.

DVFR will never solicit donations over the phone. If someone calls asking for money on our behalf, it's a scam.

Protect yourself:

Never give credit card, bank, or personal information to an unsolicited caller.

Don't be rushed. Scammers create urgency so you won't stop to think.

Hang up and call us directly at 435-599-2946 to verify any request.

Watch for payment requests by gift card, wire transfer, cash pickup, or payment apps. Legitimate organizations don't ask for these.

Don't trust caller ID. Scammers can make it look like the call is coming from a local or official number.

If you want to support us, please contact us via our website or drop by Station 13.

If you received one of these calls, please report it to the FTC at ReportFraud.ftc.gov.

Please share this with family, friends, and neighbors, especially older adults, who are often targeted. Thank you for helping keep our community safe! 🚒

As we move from Summer to Fall, it's a great time to assess your wildfire risks and take action to mitigate them. DVFR is ready to help you identify the work you need to do to make your property safer with a Home Ignition Zone property assessment.

You can schedule your free property assessment on our website at https://www.dvfirerescue.org/wildfire and you can report on your mitigation hours to help support our community's NFPA’s Wildfire and Firewise USA Programs designation.

Wildfire is a year-round risk in Dammeron Valley and is particularly high during the summer months when temperatures are high and humidity is low…

Please note that DVFR’s on-duty crew will be conducting a live burn training exercise today. While the burn will be small, residents will see smoke at Station 13. Please do not call 911 - there is no need to report a fire.

Congratulations to DVFR's Member of the Month for September, Captain Brett Greenhalgh.

Captain Greenhalgh has been with DVFR since 2025 and serves as one of our full-time Captains. This year, he's also been an integral part of our Wildland Fire Program, deploying to multiple fires in Utah, Georgia, and Texas as an Engine Boss. Captain Greenhalgh is currently leading the team on Brush 1362 that is deployed to the 2027 Initial Attack in Texas.

Congratulations, Captain Greenhalgh, and thank you for your service to Dammeron Valley and the SR-18 communities we serve.

Today, we pause to remember September 11, 2001 as a day that changed the world forever.

DVFR honors the 343 FDNY firefighters, along with the police officers, paramedics, and civilians who gave their lives that day. Their courage in the face of the unimaginable continues to guide all who wear the uniform today.

For all the families who lost loved ones, and for those responders who are still fighting the health battles that followed, we remember and we carry your sacrifice with us every shift.

From everyone at DVFR, we thank you for your bravery, your service, and your sacrifice, and we will never forget.

Last week, the Dixie Elks hosted "Quartermania," a fundraiser to benefit DVFR. Their amazing members have been raising funds this year to assist DVFR with the purchase of a new side-by-side for rural and remote rescue operations. Last week's event raised more than $7,500 and so far the Dixie Elks have raised nearly $25,000 for DVFR!

Thank you so much to all of the Elks members and their supporters for hosting a really fun event.

Congratulations to DVFR's August Member of the Month, Chris Ewok Carswell. As a DVFR seasonal Engine Boss, Ewok is a critical member of our Wildland Program. This season, he's led teams on the Cherry, Cottonwood, Swett, and Widemouth 2 Fires in Utah. His experience is a valuable asset to DVFR for deployments and training our teams.

Thank you, Ewok, for your continued service to DVFR, our Wildland Program, our team, and our communities.

🔥WILDLAND DEPLOYMENT UPDATE 🔥

After all five of DVFR's deployed crews and apparatus returned to Dammeron Valley, Rescue 131 was almost immediately re-deployed to Oregon, this time on the Paradise Fire.

On Sunday, Firefighters Alfred, Whiting, Broadbent, and Casper departed with DVFR's REMS unit to the Black Canyon Fire burning in the central part Utah.

2026 continues to be an active fire season, and with continued dry and hot conditions, DVFR's Wildland crews are a critical component of local, state, and federal firefighting efforts.

At 10:26AM today, DVFR was dispatched to a reported motorcycle accident on Gunlock Road. Engine 131, Brush 1351, and Battalion Chief 132 responded and arrived on scene to a single motorcyle rider who had departed the roadway and fallen down an appropriately 30-foot embankment. The rider was wearing a helmet.

The DVFR crew executed a low-angle extrication to bring the patient back to the roadway where Gold Cross Ambulance provided initial care before transfer to Intermountain Flight & Ambulance Services for air transport to Intermountain St. George Regional Hospital. The patient was transported with non-life threatening injuries in stable condition.

The cause of the accident is under investigation.

Thank you to the DVFR crew for executing the rope rescue extrication, as well as crews from Northwestern Special Service District, Gold Cross Ambulance, and Washington County Sheriff's Office - Utah for their responses.

We remind all riders who enjoy Gunlock Road and other rural roads in Washington County to observe posted speed limits and adjust your speed and riding style to weather and road conditions. DVFR wants everyone to enjoy their time on the road safely, so please wear a helmet.

DVFR's REMS team has been deployed on the Widemouth 2 Fire since 29 July. The Rapid Extraction Module Support (REMS) team is a highly specialized resource that accesses, stabilizes, and extracts an injured or ill firefighter from difficult terrain when normal ground evacuation isn't practical.

Capabilities for this team include:

🧗High- and low-angle rope rescue
🛟Patient packaging and litter operations
🏔️Remote/steep-terrain access
⛑️Technical extraction from canyons, slopes, rocks, or other difficult terrain
🚁Working with incident medical personnel and air resources to move a patient to an ambulance or helicopter
🌲Establishing rescue systems that can operate well away from roads or normal EMS access

As the first REMS team in Utah, we're extremely proud of the advanced skills and capabilities that our REMS team members bring to the wildland firefighting community. Thank you to Captain Monahan and Firefighters Herbst, Hill, and Reynolds for their hard work on what is now the second largest fire in Utah history.
