This evening, we had the honor of witnessing a Citizen Life-Saving Award presented to Clint Schneider, in recognition of his actions on the night of September 11.
Having spotted flames coming from a neighbor’s home, Mr. Schneider immediately ran across the street (barefoot!), gained entry, and helped the resident exit the home, all while fire conditions were rapidly worsening. Although the fire department response was rapid, nothing beats a brave neighbor across the street, willing to help. We believe that his actions were truly life-saving, and we applaud his bravery. We would also like to thank the other neighbors that helped the homeowner that evening and in the days afterward, with fundraising efforts to assist with needs after the fire.
Mr. Rogers would be proud of this neighborhood!

A large group of WVFC personnel and family members attended and participated in the annual service at the Firefighter Memorial in Kingdom City, MO. Five WVFC members that passed away in 2025 were added to the Washington section of the memorial wall:
Thomas E. Frankenberg
Robert B. Hillermann
Charles L. McCabe
George J. Meyer
Dennis G. Schwoeppe

We are honored to have served with these fine men.

If you have never been to the memorial, it is located at the northwest corner of the Kingdom City exit off of Hwy 70. It is a beautiful area for individual departments to honor their members, and for the highest recognition of Missouri firefighters that were lost in the line of duty.

This afternoon, the Washington Volunteer Fire Company held the annual awards and pinning ceremony.
We had the honor of presenting Citizen Life Safety Awards to Bob Sturm and James Seebeck (not present for pictures), for their lifesaving actions at a vehicle fire. In September of 2025, WFD was dispatched to a vehicle fire with rescue on Hwy KK. Prior to arrival of Fire and EMS, Bob Sturm and James Seebeck stopped to remove the occupants of the vehicle, and got them to safety until emergency personnel arrived. We thank them for their heroic actions that day, and being great examples of helping our neighbors.
We also congratulate all of our members that received recognition today. (For those who may be wondering, the “100 Club” is awarded to members that have attended at least 100 calls for service, at least 100 training hours, and at least 100 hours of committee/activity time). For those members who were not able to be present for the ceremony today, you are not off the hook- we will be getting pictures of you eventually!
Thank you to the WFVC Auxiliary for refreshments, and a belated thank you for providing hydration assist at Friday night’s fire.
