🎗️It’s been a little while since we’ve posted any sort of update on Maggie. Recently we’ve had many people express hearing that Maggie has a donor. We want to specifically clarify this and state Maggie does NOT have a donor. The donation process is complex, takes many tests, and quite a bit of time. We are aware of people going through the donation process and we are so grateful for those that are pursuing that and we send a huge THANK YOU to you.

💚 The thought process with receiving a kidney is that you should treat this process as if you don’t have a donor up until an hour after the surgery. Many things can change including the day of surgery so we are continuing to advocate for donors to sign up. Even if you hear this from someone in the process this still does not mean they will be the donor in the end. We ask that you do not repeat information of Maggie having a donor as this can still be incorrect and we don’t want the wrong perception that Maggie is out of the woods. We will be sure to make an official announcement when Maggie has successfully found a donor and a life changing kidney. Until that point, please continue to share this information so we are sure Maggie will get that new kidney.

🌻 As for Maggie, right now she is still taking it a day at a time maintaining dialysis daily. She is often busy with appointments but still finds time to be outside and with her animals. Of course she’s also still very involved here.

❤️‍🩹 Help us continue to support Maggie by sharing this post and any previous posts we’ve put out. The link to donate is below. If you have ever considered donating, don’t hesitate to complete the registration through the link. There is no obligation at any point but it could help provide you with important information to help you make a decision. Thank you again and let’s continue on 💪

This summer our department rolls into a bit of a milestone as we reach the 10th year of our per diem program. This program started with just four new hires from surrounding communities taking shifts Monday-Friday, 7:00am-5:00pm. In these ten years there have been some great changes. We’ve had a lot of new faces come through the program providing coverage to keep our community safe. We even increased our shifts to include 12 hour shifts both day and night Monday-Friday. Throughout these ten great years two of our original per diem members have stayed with us through it all. Many should know them as they are our two Chris’s.

Unfortunately, as we reflect on this decade we are also met with a tough “see you later” to AEMT Chris Smith. Chris has been an important part of this community for the entirety of the per diem program, often seeing him at town meeting, fire prevention day, fundraisers, and just out and about in the ambulance. There’s many in this community that have also met Chris at some of their worst times and can attest to the unwavering care he provides to all. Chris has always lead with kindness and a genuine sense of caring that follows long after the call is over. For us here on the department he has been a teacher, a provider, and friend to all. Stopping in at the station Chris has always met you with a smile and checking in on how you’re doing. Not having Chris will be a great loss for our fire department family, but we also wish him the absolute best as he begins a new chapter. Even in leaving Chris teaches us the courage in starting new.

Chris, you have unwaveringly protected and served this community. Thank you for an eventful, crazy, and outstanding 10 years.

We wish you the best,

Your Washington Fire Department family🚑

We want to recognize one of our own, Steve Minikowski for an outstanding 30 years in the fire service. Steve came to us about 5 years ago with many years of service with Somers Fire Department in Connecticut. From the beginning Steve felt like he was always part of our family. We are so grateful he brought his passion for the fire service up here and we are honored to recognize him for 30 years of giving back to communities in Connecticut and New Hampshire.

Thank you Steve, here's to many more!🚒🚨👨‍🚒

🚨 We're excited to share a pretty cool opportunity for Maggie. Maggie was asked to be on the podcast The CAN Report to bring awareness to her story and simply talk about her life.

🎗️ We are really proud of how Maggie continues to be a voice for herself and others. We admire the way she leads these discussions with a calm openness despite the seriousness of the situation.

💚 We will pin the links at the top of our page for those that are interested!
