We have been receiving questions and complaints about the construction and flagging on Hwy 148 - this is not a county project, it is a state project. You will need to direct those questions to KDOT. The Washington office's phone number is 785-325-2109.

We will not be sending crews out to work on the roads today, unfortunately they are too wet to be worked right now. We will be out in full force on Monday getting them fixed back up.

Heads up to Hanover residents:

The area around the Hanover river bridge will be slow traffic, maybe stopped at some times. Please avoid the area if possible for the next several hours. There is a log jam on the pier that we will be removing this morning while the water is high.

State Emergency Operations Center Prep Plan
Kansas Division of Emergency Management
Severe Storms and Flooding September 29 - October 2, 2026

Prep Plan Developed: September 28, 2026, at 1600 hours

Overview
From Tuesday, September 29th to Friday, October 2nd, forecasted severe storms and widespread showers and thunderstorms have prompted Flood Watches across portions of western and central Kansas, with the potential for Flood Warnings to be issued for multiple regions and counties as conditions develop throughout the week. Storm systems during these days may produce severe storms capable of quarter-sized hail, damaging winds of up to 65 mph, and brief, isolated tornadoes. Widespread heavy rainfall is also expected across much of the state, with the potential for both localized and widespread flooding. The strongest storms could produce rainfall totals of 2 to 4 inches in some areas, with localized amounts reaching up to 8 inches. Kansas rivers may experience minor flooding, while one to three rivers could reach moderate flood levels during the forecast period. The Kansas Division of Emergency Management Readiness and Response Bureau will be monitoring the situation and will provide updates on the situation as necessary.

Northeast and KC/Metro Regions
Timing: Tuesday 1800 – Friday at 2300
Hazards: Temperatures will range from the 60s to the 80s from Tuesday through Thursday, with ongoing
showers and thunderstorms capable of producing areas of flash flooding. Rainfall totals of 1 to 3 inches
will be possible, with localized amounts near 4 inches.

Flooding remains the primary hazard across the
region during this period.

REMEMBER - TURN AROUND, DON'T DROWN.

Heads up!! Watch for cyclists this weekend!

🚴Heads up, Cloud County!🚴‍♂️

The Pony Express 120 Gravel Dash is coming through the area September 11th and 12th, and this year this event is getting bigger!

A new 250-mile race has been added to the event, with riders traveling from Marysville ➡️ Linn ➡️ Concordia ➡️ Courtland and then back east, with plenty of stops along the way!

So what does this mean for you? You may notice increased bicycle traffic on area roads, especially our rural roads, during this event. Please use extra caution when driving, watch for cyclists, and give these riders plenty of space when passing.

🚗 Slow down. Stay alert. Share the road.

Let’s keep our visitors and community safe!
