Fellow Matsuvians,

Bad news: this rain is particularly “fluffy” and “thick”. We are refusing to use the word, but it does mean roads will be unpredictable. Be smart.

Good news: PFDs are hitting accounts, so that’s cool?

Idk what else to say other than make good choices. We will be here…muttering about the weather.

What Are Those Intersection Cameras?

Recently in Palmer, Wasilla, and Anchorage we’ve been using MioVision cameras to count pedestrians between intersections. This information will help determine the most appropriate pedestrian crossing treatment(s) between the bus stop and shopping center as part of an upcoming Highway Safety Improvement Project.

📊 Miovision cameras collect anonymous traffic data to help us understand how people travel along our roads. They are usually set up for 3-7 days and then removed or transferred to a new traffic study location in the state.

🚫 They do NOT read or record license plates.

🚗 The cameras count vehicles and classify them by type, from motorcycles and passenger cars to buses and tractor-trailers. They can also collect pedestrian counts and turning movement data.

📍 Miovision cameras are moved to different locations throughout the year to collect the anonymous traffic data needed to help inform transportation safety and improvement decisions.
