Why shouldn’t you charge your phone under a pillow?

Charging creates heat. A pillow, blanket, or couch cushion traps that heat around the phone and battery instead of allowing it to escape. If the battery or charger is damaged or defective, overheating can become a much bigger problem.

Charge devices on a hard, uncovered surface using the correct charger. If something becomes unusually hot, starts swelling, smells strange, or makes odd noises, unplug it if you can do so safely and stop using it.

Kids Fire Safety Training Day is happening this Friday!

Bring the family to Taylor Fire between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. for hands-on fire extinguisher training, live fire demonstrations, and age-appropriate fire safety education. Kids can also enjoy a bounce house, obstacle course, games and prizes, along with free hot dogs and drinks.

We’re at 5887 East Blue Lupine Drive in Palmer. Come join us for a fun day of learning and practicing fire safety!

Why does water make a grease fire worse?

Water sinks beneath the hot oil, turns into steam almost instantly, and blasts burning grease out of the pan. Instead of one contained fire, you can suddenly have flaming oil across the kitchen.

If a pan catches fire, turn off the heat if you can do so safely and slide a lid or baking sheet over it. Do not move the pan and definitely DO NOT add water.

To celebrate National Fire Prevention Month, we’re answering the questions kids ask—and adults pretend they already know. First up: Why do people say not to microwave eggs?

An egg is basically a tiny pressure cooker with no release valve. Microwaves heat the moisture inside, but the shell—or even the membrane around the yolk—can keep the resulting steam trapped. Pressure builds until the egg explodes, sometimes after it has been removed from the microwave.

Do not microwave an egg in its shell or reheat a whole hard-boiled egg. Breakfast should not require safety goggles!

Join Taylor Fire for Kids Fire Safety Training Day on Friday, October 16, from 10 am until 2 pm!

Kids will learn to use a fire extinguisher safely through hands-on training and live fire demonstrations. Every child who completes the training will receive an official Kids Fire Extinguisher Training Certificate.

This free family event will also include a bounce house, obstacle course, games, prizes, hot dogs, and drinks.

Trenton continues to expand his role at Taylor Fire, especially when it comes to troubleshooting and servicing fire alarm systems. He’s an excellent inspector who doesn’t just identify issues—he takes the time to make repairs on site whenever possible and makes sure our customers are taken care of.

If there’s work in Fairbanks, there’s a good chance Trenton is our guy! Our Fairbanks customers love working with him, and Fairbanks is practically his second home.
Trenton also continues to invest in his technical knowledge, completing a fire alarm networking class this year to further strengthen his skills with fire alarm panels.
