Due to the President's event at the Curtis D. Menard Memorial Sports Center on Tuesday, October 13, 2026, several temporary road closures and transportation restrictions will be in place.

Road Closures: Clapp Street, Beacon Street, and Aviation Avenue will be closed from 8:00 am to 6:00 pm. There will be no pedestrian access to the Menard Center or along closed roads. Registered attendees should follow the parking and transportation instructions provided via email.

Traffic Delays: Motorists should anticipate potential delays of up to 30 minutes along the Glenn and Parks Highways between Anchorage and Wasilla throughout the day.

Flight Restrictions: Temporary flight restrictions will be in effect in Anchorage and the greater Wasilla area, including restrictions on drones and other aircraft.

Law Enforcement Presence: The public should expect an increased law enforcement presence throughout the Mat-Su Valley and follow all directions from law enforcement officers.

Do you operate a hotel, motel, or other lodging business in Wasilla?

Recent changes affect how sales tax is collected and reported for bookings made through certain online travel marketplaces.

Beginning with applicable bookings, marketplace facilitators such as Airbnb and the Expedia Group are responsible for collecting and remitting City of Wasilla sales tax on transactions made through their platforms.

What does that mean for your business? The City’s informational letter explains the changes, important effective dates, and how marketplace sales should be reported on your City sales tax return.

🗳️ Unofficial Results—October 6, 2026, City of Wasilla Regular Election

The Canvass Board begins reviewing ballots Wednesday, October 7. Eligible remaining ballots are scheduled to be counted Friday, October 9, in the late afternoon. Results will be updated after that count.

The City Council is scheduled to certify the election Wednesday, October 14, at 6 p.m. at City Hall. Results remain unofficial until certification.

Unless a mayoral runoff is required, the newly elected mayor will assume office October 19. Newly elected council members are scheduled to take their oaths and be seated October 26.
