It was a privilege and a real joy to attend the ribbon cutting for the new ADA-accessible playground at Camp Harkness Foundation alongside Lt. Governor Susan Bysiewicz, DDS Commissioner Elisa Velardo, DEEP Deputy Commissioner Mason Trumble, State Senator Martha Marx, and State Representative Nick Gauthier.

But for me, the most meaningful part of today was celebrating with the individuals who make Camp Harkness so special, people like Beverly, who has been coming to Camp for decades and loves this place more than anyone I know. ❤️

This playground is about so much more than a new facility. It’s about inclusion, opportunity, friendship, and making sure everyone can experience the joy that Camp Harkness brings to so many families.

A heartfelt thank you to the incredible Camp Harkness staff, board members, and volunteers for everything you do, not just for our community, but for people from across Connecticut. Please know how much Waterford appreciates you and the difference you make in the lives of others every single day. Thank you also to the Bond Commission who committed over $600,000 for this incredibly important project.

Proud to call Camp Harkness part of our Waterford community and a significant part of my 30 year career working with individuals with disabilities! 💙

Last night, the Waterford Representative Town Meeting took an important step forward by supporting the Waterford Utility Commission’s proposed sewer rate increase, the first increase in 19 years.

I know rate increases are never easy, but this is about much more than today’s bill. It’s about making sure we are responsibly planning for the long-term future of our sewer infrastructure and protecting the system that thousands of Waterford residents depend on every day.

After nearly two decades without a rate increase, the need to invest in our aging infrastructure, plan for future capital improvements and maintain a strong, financially responsible utility is critical. Delaying these investments only makes them more expensive for future generations.

A special thank you to the consultant who provided the detailed analysis and, especially, to Waterford Utility Commission Director Jill Stevens for the tremendous job she did presenting the facts, answering questions and helping everyone understand why this investment is necessary.

I also want to thank the members of the RTM for their thoughtful consideration and support. This was not simply a vote to raise rates, it was a vote to responsibly invest in Waterford’s infrastructure and our community’s future.

Good infrastructure doesn’t happen by accident. It takes planning, responsible decisions and a willingness to invest today so we are better prepared tomorrow. For more information please check out the full presentation and questions online at www.waterfordct.gov.
