Public Service Announcement: We are very glad to be able to provide a book drive location for donations of unused or unwanted reading materials. However, if the book drive is full, we ask that you do not drop off excess material on the ground or on top of the bin. If it rains, all of these items are exposed to the elements and we just had to recycle a bunch of otherwise good books that could have gone to a new home.

The books get picked up here about twice a month, so if it is full, come back another day (or call ahead and we can tell you whether there is room or not). Additionally, Sirius Book Drive no longer accepts children's material. That said, inside the library we are usually accepting children's books for our own book sale, so if you have some to donate, you can call ahead or stop by and ask us and we may be able to take them off your hands.

Thank you all for respecting the rules of the book drive, we appreciate you!

We will be CLOSED on Monday, October 12th for Indigenous Peoples' Day/Columbus Day. We will be open our regular hours the rest of the week. Enjoy the holiday weekend!

Aaaand... part one of the children's room renovation project is complete! Next step, carpet replacement (we will put out advance notice for that once it is scheduled). In the meantime, enjoy these before, during, and after photos.

Special thanks to our staff member Orion, and local artist Ab Borzon for their tremendous work designing and executing the project. Thank you also to Rachel, Liz, Lauren, Claire, Tara, Lori, Robert, Emily, Natasha, Sarah, Elliot, Theo, and Ivana for all their help with the painting process! We could not have done this without you.

We are still working hard on getting the children's area painted and the mural finished, we just need a few more days! We won't be having storytime, see you next week!

Just a reminder, there is no Storytime today!

Starting September 14, 2026 (today), the children's area will be closed to the public while we repaint the room and install a new mural. We expect the project to take about two weeks.

What to expect during painting:
A selection of children's books will still be available for browsing and checkout directly outside the children's area
The play area, toys, and train setup will be unavailable
Our Friday storytime on 9/18/2026 is cancelled
Looking ahead: Later this fall/winter, we'll close the room for a few additional days to install new carpet tiles.

About the mural: Designed by staff member Orion Moylan in collaboration with local artist Ab Borzon, the mural will depict various animals reading books in train cars: a fitting theme, since our library is housed in a former train depot. The project is partially funded by a grant from the Upstate Theatre Coalition.

Thank you for your patience as we complete this project--we promise the finished room will be worth the wait! We expect a brighter, refreshed, and more engaging space.

Last week, we had a lovely group of people join us at the library with instructor Deanna for a workshop where we all made needle felted keychains. The results are pretty stunning.

Our next class with Deanna is December 10th, registration will open on our website on November 10th. If you haven't yet subscribed to our events newsletter, we recommend that you do!

We have some leftover mugs from our summer reading program this year! For those who were not able to win one, we are selling them for $10 each while supplies last. All proceeds will help fund next year's summer reading event.

The 12oz olive green mugs, with a brown lip and interior, feature an image of a giant T-rex taking a bite out of the corner of the library building, designed by our staff member Orion, with the slogan "Unearth a Story" underneath.

The library will be closed all day Monday, September 7, in observance of Labor Day. Additionally, the library will be closing early at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 9, in memory of a former board member and employee of the library.
