As harvest season gets underway, drivers are urged to use extra caution when sharing the road with large farm equipment.

Reminders to stay safe on the road:

• Stay attentive and eliminate distractions when approaching farm equipment.

• Slow down when approaching a tractor, combine or other large piece of equipment and to give themselves plenty of space.

• Before passing, make sure you have a clear view of the road and enough time to safely move around the equipment. Also watch for turn signals before attempting to pass.

At the end of a long, hard workday, everyone deserves to return home safely.

Thank you to everyone that ordered pizzas and allowed us to deliver them last night. Thanks to Interstate Batteries, we handed out close to 45 smoke detector batteries to our community. We also want to thank DT’s 118 Saloon and Classic’s Pub for being so great to work with in cooking pizzas. Thank you to the firefighters that took time to help deliver and hand out batteries. We had four trucks of firefighters that were steadily busy. If anyone has pictures of us when we stopped, feel free to share them!

Tomorrow evening from 5pm-7pm is our annual pizza delivery and smoke detector battery hand out. Place your pizza order with Classic’s Pub or DT’s 118 Saloon and we will deliver your pizzas and offer to change the batteries in your smoke detectors. You have to pay when you order and don’t forget to leave your address. Thank you to Interstate Batteries for donating the batteries. We look forward to seeing everyone tomorrow!

Fire Prevention Week starts on Sunday October 4th. Along with our pancake breakfast that day, we will also be doing our pizza delivery and changing out batteries for smoke detectors with batteries donated by Interstate Batteries on Wednesday October 7th from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. for residents in our fire district. This year we are excited to work with DT’s 118 Saloon and Classic’s for the pizza deliveries. Anyone that orders pizzas can choose to have us deliver in a fire truck and change out your smoke detector batteries. All orders must be paid when you place your order. Watch for more details and the next few days!

Here are photos from the house burn we conducted last Sunday morning. Live house burns don’t come along often but they provide a training opportunity that’s as close to a real fire as we can get. We can’t thank the property owners enough for allowing us to use this house for our live burn and allowing us to use it for our monthly training in June and August. We also want to thank SASCS for the knowledgeable instructors that guided us during the training, Kilkenny Fire Department for bringing a tender to help haul water, and Minnesota Fire Buff page for taking these amazing photos!
