Ahhh, the fresh, crisp feeling of autumn. As great as it is, it also means flu season is back. With busy days, the kiddos being back in school, and changing temperatures, it’s easy to overlook one of the simplest things your body needs in this time of need: water.

Staying hydrated helps support normal circulation, digestion, and other everyday functions. Keep water nearby throughout the day and make it your go-to drink when you’re thirsty.

Luckily, you don’t have to go far for a good glass of water.

Today, the Maine Forest Service visited a recently harvested area of KWD-owned land on the South Peninsula of China Lake as part of a field learning opportunity. The site showcases sustainable forest management practices designed to create a healthy, diverse forest with a mix of tree species and age classes. This thoughtful approach to forest management, helps protect the water quality of China Lake while promoting long-term forest health and resilience. By investing in responsible stewardship today, KWD is helping ensure clean, reliable drinking water and a thriving watershed for generations to come.

China Lake is an important part of life in Central Maine. It’s a place to enjoy the outdoors, a home for wildlife, and the drinking water source for the Greater Waterville area.

A full water bowl is one of the simplest ways to take care of your pet.

Fresh, clean water helps keep pets hydrated and healthy. Keep their bowls topped off and change the water at least once a day. If your pet spends a lot of time outdoors, check their water more often.

Good water doesn’t happen by accident.

We're making a major investment in the future of our water system with an $8.6 million treatment plant upgrade. The project will add PFAS treatment while also strengthening the system that delivers drinking water to more than 22,000 people across seven communities.

It’s a big project with a simple purpose: keep doing what KWD has always been here to do, providing reliable drinking water to the people who count on it every day.

1 billion gallons.

That’s about how much drinking water Kennebec Water District produces every year. Think about that!

That water starts at China Lake, is treated at the water treatment plant, and makes its way through miles of infrastructure before it reaches your faucet.

Every day, that system is working behind the scenes to keep water flowing for more than 22,000 people across the region.

You turn on the tap. Water comes out, but there’s a lot more to that than meets the eye.

**UPDATE**Water has been restored to the area as of 3:45pm

We have a water main break on Violette Avenue in Waterville. Customers on Violette Avenue from Cool Street to Brigham Street will be impacted. Violette Avenue from Cool Street to Fairview is closed.

The repair may take several hours. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

When normal water service is restored, customers may experience discoloration and/or air in their lines. Flushing water through an outside hose spigot or a bathtub faucet (cold water side) will help to clear the lines.

Please contact our office at (207) 872-2763 if you have any questions.

Before you close-up and lock the camp door for the season, give the water one last look.

Shut off the water supply if appropriate, drain or winterize the plumbing, check for leaks, and make sure you know where the main water shutoff is. And before freezing temperatures arrive, disconnect those outdoor hoses.

A few minutes now can save you from opening the camp next spring to a very unwelcome surprise.

Close it up. Shut it down. Then head home.
