At the City Council meeting this past Tuesday night, Chief Frost, Mayor Morris and the Council recognized two call-force firefighters for providing life saving measures on a cardiac arrest victim.

On September 12th, FF Kaitlyn Husser and FF Doug Myrick were participating in the 2026 Brunswick 9/11 Heroes Run. While on the race course, they came upon an individual in cardiac arrest. Without hesitation, they immediately started performing CPR and activated 911. They provided these life saving measures until the Brunswick Maine Fire Department arrived and defibrillated the patient resulting in Return of Spontaneous Circulation (ROSC). With these combined efforts, the patient is making a full recovery.

We recognize FFs Husser and Myrick in stepping in when they were needed most and saving a life. We are proud of their actions on that fateful day in Brunswick.

Please see this important message from Chief Frost!

Alternative heat sources, if improperly installed or not UL listed, can pose a major fire risk. Any carbon-based fuel gives off carbon monoxide, an odorless and lethal gas. Be sure heating elements are installed correctly, vent outside the home and are away from couches, beds and other materials that could burn and catch fire.

If you have any questions or concerns, please call the department at: 207-680-4735.

As home heating oil hits record highs in Maine, local fire officials worry families could turn to risky heating alternatives to stay warm.
