Little Birdie just letting you know we received two larger boxes of book mail today! It's exciting! Really!

Books are entering the system at human, simultaneously offering customer service to others, speed. But you'll notice holds for new titles suddenly being filled and the New Shelf turning a new leaf.

The Cruisin' Kids Run is getting closer!
Monday we sent an email out to everyone who is registered with all of the little details. If you did not receive that email, your email address may have been incorrect in the registration. Just let us know and we'll send it on.

The short, highlighted version:
- Kids Run starts at 9:30 am next to Firemen's Field. It's free and open to all kids! You still have until 9:15 am that morning to get registered. Just be sure to complete a form (and waiver) either online or on paper that morning: https://events.watervillepl.org/event/15489765

- The Library Parking CLOSES to all traffic for the safety of the kids between 9 am - 10 am (or as long as the kids need to clear the course). Please do not go around any cones, signs, or barriers if the lot is closed. Parking is available nearby in the Village Lot and on side streets. Just be aware of the 5k runners & walkers who may be out finishing their race on White Street.

- Also for parking, it is new this year to have a softball tournament happening simultaneously. Softball players, please feel free to utilize the library lot after 10 am. But we will need it just until our event is over. Thanks!

- Shirts will be available for everyone who registered before Saturday the 12th. Pick up is available at the library on Friday from 12-6 pm, or race morning at the 5k pickup, and thereafter. Library staff will be near the 5k registration and the bleachers that morning. We may have more shirts open up if you registered after that. So thank you for continuing to fill in your child's size just in case.

- All kids receive a fun medal at the finish! Plus, Connected Community Schools is offering a snack to keep them fueled.

- Take a breath and keep in mind that this is a community event, free for kids, and meant to simply be joyous. It's a party of a run vs. a competition. If a volunteer asks you to park somewhere else, remember they gave up their time for your kids because they care. If they ask you to step back off the course, it's so that the kid who is jetting in doesn't run smack into you or fall trying not to. Everyone is here to help give you and your family the best start to the Cruisin' morning we can. We make it a great one together.

- Speaking of making it great together... Thank you to the Brothertown Optimist Club, MPS PTA, the Waterville Foundation, and Connected Community Schools for joining us to make this event possible. We'll see you out there!

It's time to welcome a new crew of Bookworms, and we couldn't be more excited!

This twice weekly program offers a consistent chance to get to know and grow with a whole crew of 3 & 4 year olds, and they absolutely teach us something each year! In a rare opportunity, an extra space has opened up. So if you have a 3 or 4 year old and are able to attend regularly on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 11 am - Noon, let us know. An adult does need to stay on site, but relax/work separately while your child is attending.

Email [email protected], call 315-841-4651, or stop on in.

Also today, Knitting Circle will cozy in with handicrafts and coffee at 2 pm in the Program Room. Middle School Book Club meets at 4 pm in the YA section. Then, our Board of Trustees meet at 6 pm in the Program Room.

It's a great season for strewing!

Some of our favorite books to leave about to catch the interest of a passerby include nonfiction! Catchy covers, chunks of information (sometimes mixed with great humor), and nothing that makes you feel like it needs to be read cover to cover. Because reading doesn't always have to be about finishing a book. Sometimes it's finding great books that you can browse. But add a few graphic novel or short novels in, because you never know when the hook will catch. This is great not only for back-to-school season, kids, and teens, but also for guests and visitors.

Stop on in and check out a variety of things to explore. We're open Saturdays from 11 -2! Need recommendations? Just ask. We love flipping through books- it comes with the job.

There are countless stories to tell, to hear, to continue to remember, and still to come.

Kids Night Out is celebrating that Back to School feeling tonight with a themed craft, plus chicken nugget, carrot stick, munchy dinner that would look great on a lunch tray (if we had them). We'll see all of you registered folks at 5 pm to sign in and start the fun! Not registered? Check to see if a spot opens up by joining the wait list: https://events.watervillepl.org/event/17327266

Too old? September has a few other options that you can check out. From Book Club to a Friday Jr/Sr High Lounge, and all ages can join the fun of the free Cruisin' Kids Run to jumpstart the day! All "kids" until they're 18 are welcome in the fun run!

Check this out!
Great thanks to the Kathleen A. Perreault Fund for offering libraries "Stacks of Support" in up to $15,000 of match money during Mohawk Valley Gives on Friday, September 18th!

That means that every donation you make to the library through Mohawk Valley Gives will be matched dollar for dollar until the $15,000 is met!

While we know many people and businesses plan their giving around holidays, consider Mohawk Valley Gives the holiday that gives back. Your donation goes much further on this particular day to help the library with everything from programs, to park/museum passes, our collection, and so much more. Essentially one $100 donation might cover 1 park pass, but when that's doubled (thanks to matches) you're now providing 2 passes!

For more information visit the Mohawk Valley Gives page: https://www.givemv.org/organizations/waterville-public-library

Only 10 shirts remain (as of 9/8 at closing)! Register today to reserve your shirt.
Registration will remain open until the day of the event, and we absolutely want you to run with us. But if you hope to do it in this year's shirt, don't wait!

Online registration: https://events.watervillepl.org/event/15489765

* Remember, you do not have to enter a library card to register. You can leave that field blank. Or use the individual cards of each child you're registering to pre-populate those fields. It just won't let you use the same card twice.
