Approximately 1:10am Watervliet Fire Department responded to the area of the 700 block of First Street, near the border of the City of Watervliet and Town of Colonie, following multiple calls reporting a structure fire with possible entrapment.

Upon arrival, Watervliet Command confirmed the fire building was located within the City of Watervliet. Heavy fire was found in the rear of the structure, extending into the building and toward the roofline. A second alarm was transmitted, bringing additional resources to the scene.

Several Town of Colonie fire departments, were also dispatched due to the location of the incident, remained on scene and assisted alongside Watervliet’s mutual aid departments. Crews worked together on fire suppression, opening up the structure to check for extension, and overhaul operations.

The fire displaced residents from the building, with the American Red Cross assisting those affected.

The New York State Office of Fire Prevention and Control (OFPC) is investigating the cause of the fire.

We thank all the responding departments and Colonie Ems for a ambulance to the scene for standby
