The Watervliet Police Department is launching an exclusive Youth Cadet Initiative, seeking just 5 qualified individuals between the ages of 14-20 (maxed out at 21st birthday) for this competitive opportunity.
This program is proudly designated as Cadet Post #109, a number that holds profound significance for our department. #109 was the patrolman's badge number of Lieutenant Marc Langlais, who devastatingly passed away in April of 2023. The Watervliet Police Department is honored to carry on the memories and legacy of Lt. Langlais through this cadet program that embodies his commitment to service and community.
Our innovative program delivers an immersive law enforcement experience, offering selected cadets unprecedented access to a snap shot of police operations. Sessions will meet once per month.
Participants will engage in a curriculum modeled after our professional Police Academy, but tailored for tomorrow's leaders. Beyond standard police knowledge, cadets will develop critical decision-making abilities through simulations, fitness regimens, and real-world scenario training.
This selective program emphasizes excellence in leadership, strategic teamwork, and personal accountability. Successful candidates will earn exclusive opportunities to assist in official police functions and build meaningful connections with the community of Watervliet.

In order to be considered for a position within the cadet post, the candidate must:
Have reached fourteen years of age, but not yet twenty-one and has graduated from 8th grade.
Have completed a membership application, including parental consent (if applicable).
Complete Medical Waiver
Maintain at least a “C” average in all school subjects through the 12th grade.
Have no serious arrests/convictions
Be of good moral character
Cleared by a background investigation.
Undergo an interview by appropriate members of the Cadet Post and the Watervliet Police Department.
