๐Ÿšจ Preparing the Town of Hector for NG911 ๐Ÿ“๐Ÿ“ž

Schuyler County Emergency Management recently held a public meeting at the Hector Fire Department to discuss an important step in preparing our communities for the future of Next Generation 911 (NG911).

The meeting focused on improving 911 address ranges, road names, and location information throughout the Town of Hector. Accurate addressing is critical for emergency dispatchers and responders to quickly identify the correct location of an emergency and get the appropriate resources there as efficiently as possible.

Director Kirk Smith presented information on the NG911 transition, explained how accurate addressing impacts emergency response, and answered questions from residents and community members.

This work is about more than updating a mapโ€”it is about helping firefighters, EMS, law enforcement, and other emergency responders find you when you need help. ๐Ÿš’๐Ÿš‘๐Ÿš“

Thank you to the Hector Fire Department for hosting the meeting and to everyone who attended, asked questions, and provided input.

๐Ÿ“ Accurate addresses. Better location information. Faster, more reliable emergency response.

Thank you WENY Ava Rowland for the media coverage of tonight's meeting.

A message from our friends at Schuyler County Public Health about measles.

๐Ÿ“ข Measles cases have been found in neighboring counties. Make sure you have the facts so you, the people around you, and our community stay healthy.
1. Measles is preventable, but spreads easily when people arenโ€™t protected.
2. Measles is not just a rash โ€“ it can be dangerous, especially for kids under 5.
3. The MMR vaccine is the best way to protect against measles.

๐Ÿšจ THREAT EVALUATION & REPORTING TRAINING UNDERWAY IN SCHUYLER COUNTY ๐Ÿšจ

Today marks the beginning of the Basic Threat Evaluation and Reporting (BTERC) Course being hosted here in Schuyler County. Personnel from across the region are coming together for this important training, with additional instruction taking place over the next two days.

Schuyler County is proud to have multiple county departments participating, including representatives from:

โ€ข County Administratorโ€™s Office
โ€ข Emergency Management
โ€ข Schuyler County Sheriff's Office, NY
โ€ข Probation
โ€ข Schuyler County Public Health
Along with other local and regional partners.

This type of multidisciplinary participation is exactly what makes threat assessment and prevention efforts effective. Recognizing concerning behavior, understanding risk factors, appropriately sharing information, and connecting individuals with the right resources requires more than one agency or profession working alone.

New York State has emphasized Behavioral Threat Assessment and Management (TAM) Teams as an important component of preventing targeted violence. TAM teams bring together professionals from different disciplines to identify, assess, and help mitigate potential threats before they escalate.

Training is a critical part of building that capability. By bringing regional partners together, we strengthen our ability to recognize warning signs, communicate across disciplines, and take appropriate action when something doesn't look right.

Prevention starts with recognizing the warning signsโ€”and knowing what to do when you see them.

Schuyler County is pleased to host training that helps us prepare today to prevent the next tragedy tomorrow.
