TEEN DRIVERS

You may be excited to start driving and become more independent; however you need to understand that driving is a lifelong learning process. Those first years are very important for you to build a solid foundation of safe driving habits. If you are 15 to 18 years old, you need to know that car crashes are a leading cause of death for people your age. The greatest dangers that lead to those fatalities include alcohol, inconsistent seat belt use, speeding and distracted driving. Also, limit your passengers because they can be a distraction.

No matter how boring it might seem, listen to your parents, learn and follow the rules and educate yourself so you can create safe driving habits that may save your life, or the life of your passengers or others on the road.

Remember the rules:

* Don’t drive impaired.
* Buckle up and make sure your passengers do too.
* Keep your eyes on the road, hands on the wheel and mind on the task of driving.
* Follow the posted speed limit.
* Limit passengers.

🚨 SCAM ALERT – PLEASE SHARE 🚨

The Wauchula Police Department is warning our community about a law enforcement impersonation scam that has already resulted in substantial financial losses.

Scammers are calling residents and falsely claiming to be law enforcement officers. They may tell you that you have an outstanding warrant, missed court, failed to report for jury duty, or are otherwise facing arrest. They then demand immediate payment to avoid going to jail.

In some cases, victims are being directed to cryptocurrency ATMs or kiosks to purchase cryptocurrency and send it to the scammer as a supposed ā€œbondā€ or payment.

āš ļø PLEASE REMEMBER:

Legitimate law enforcement agencies will NOT call you and demand payment to avoid arrest. We will NOT require payment through cryptocurrency, Bitcoin ATMs, gift cards, wire transfers, or other unusual payment methods.
If you receive one of these calls:
• Hang up immediately.
• Do not send money.
• Do not provide personal, banking, or financial information.
• Do not trust the phone number displayed on Caller ID.
• Contact your local law enforcement agency directly using a phone number you know to be legitimate.

If you have received one of these calls or have already sent money, please report it to law enforcement.

These scammers can sound convincing and may use real names, titles, or other information to make their story appear legitimate. Do not allow threats or pressure to rush you into sending money.

Please share this warning with your family, friends, neighbors, and especially anyone who may be vulnerable to this type of scam.

🐾 NOW THAT’S BOBCAT PRIDE! 🐾

Officer Amy Drake, Wauchula PD’s School Resource Officer at Wauchula Elementary, has a brand-new look for her patrol car, and we couldn’t be more excited about it!
Our SRO isn’t just assigned to Wauchula Elementary she’s part of the Bobcat family. We wanted her patrol car to reflect that connection and remind our students that Officer Drake is their police officer, and this is their police car.
Building relationships. Keeping kids safe. And showing a little school spirit along the way!
Chief Curtis and all of WPD is proud to be part of the Bobcat family! šŸ¾šŸš”
