We would like to welcome you to the official Waxhaw Police Department's page. We have three divisions: Administrative, Patrol, and Investigations.

The department is currently made up of 30 full-time officers and 5 part-time (or auxiliary) officers. As we update our Facebook, we will provide information on the officers and the job they do for the department. The officers of the Waxhaw Police Department are dedicated public servants who are passionate about their work and community. We as a department are constantly trying to improve as we participate in training around the state as well as within our own training program. We work closely with all other law enforcement agencies within Union County to combat problems that face all communities. We can not do this alone, we need the help of the citizens to make us successful. It is our goal to continue to reduce crime and solve quality of life problems so that the citizens and others who pass through our town can feel safe to function without the fear of harassment and violence that often victimizes our citizens. The only way to ensure this goal is met is for the Police Department to form a partnership with our community. This partnership must include residents, businesses, public service agencies and the faith community in order to be a success. It takes the entire community to combat the problems of today.

The Town of Waxhaw has made the decision to cancel Autumn Treasures, our fall festival scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 10, due to forecasted inclement weather associated with Hurricane Isaias.

We understand this is disappointing, and it is not the outcome we hoped for. We share in the disappointment of our vendors, staff, volunteers, downtown businesses, and everyone who helps make this event possible.

This decision follows the Town’s weather policy. The safety of our attendees, vendors, staff, volunteers, and everyone involved in the event is our top priority.

Because of the number of people involved and the logistics required to coordinate the event, Autumn Treasures will not be rescheduled. We look forward to seeing you at next year’s festival.

We also have a number of great events coming up through the rest of the year, and we welcome you to join us. For more information, visit waxhaw.com/events.

Thank you for your understanding.

We're halfway through Citizen Police Academy, and last week we got hands on with vehicle searches!

This class covered drug and alcohol investigations, then put participants to work. Officers hid simulated narcotics throughout a vehicle, and participants learned how to search for them, then got their turn to do it against the clock.

It's one thing to hear how an investigation works. It's another to be the one searching a car with the timer running. ⏲️

Officer Hit By Vehicle While Directing Traffic at NC-75 & Rehobeth Rd.

A Waxhaw Police officer was hit by a vehicle at approximately 6:40 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 23, while directing traffic at the intersection of NC-75 and Rehobeth Road.

The officer had stopped traffic on Waxhaw-Marvin Road and NC-75 to allow traffic to flow from Rehobeth Road when a driver traveling from Waxhaw-Marvin Road proceeded into the intersection, ignoring the officer’s stop instruction. The vehicle struck the officer at a low rate of speed.

The officer sustained minor injuries and was transported to the hospital for evaluation. He is expected to be okay.

The driver stopped and remained on scene. The driver was charged with failing to comply with direction from a law enforcement officer or traffic control officer.

This is exactly why drivers must follow officers’ instructions when they are directing traffic. When an officer is standing in the roadway, they are putting themselves in harm’s way to keep traffic moving safely. Slow down. Pay attention. If an officer tells you to stop, STOP.

Due to limited staffing, the intersection will not be covered by an officer for the remainder of the morning.
