Last night, Tuesday October 6th, your Calvary volunteer fire department trained on pump operations and line advancement. Each group of three firemen ran through a scenario of pulling up on scene, gearing up, putting the truck in pump, advancing the hose to spray water, putting the hoses back on the truck, disengaging the pump, properly returning their gear and equipment where it goes, and “returning to quarters”. Following all of these steps properly is important to ensure fire operations run smoothly and keep everyone safe in the process. All of our fireman did a great job with this drill, and they always have the best teamwork.

🔥 Need a burn permit? There's now an easier way to get one!

Beginning TODAY, the Georgia Forestry Commission is offering a new online burn permit system, making it more convenient to obtain permits for eligible agricultural, land-clearing and silvicultural burns.

💻 Apply from your computer or phone.
⏰ Available daily from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m.
📅 Permits are issued for the current day only.

The new system follows the same local restrictions and safety requirements already in place. If burning isn't permitted in your area or for your burn category that day, the system will let you know.

One important note: Certified Prescribed Burn Managers requesting silvicultural permits must enter their certification number. Those without a number will be directed to contact GFC for assistance.

And remember, permits are not required for hand-piled natural vegetation, but Georgia's SSTAR safety requirements still apply.
