🌎⛵️ Happy Columbus Day! ⛵️🌎

Today we recognize Columbus Day, observed each year on the second Monday in October. It’s a day to reflect on the history of exploration and the many people and events that have helped shape our world.

At Wacona, we love using days like this as opportunities to learn, reflect, and appreciate the history that has brought us to where we are today. 📚💙

Wishing our Wacona family a wonderful Columbus Day! 🌎✨

Wacona Elementary is proud to announce that our School Resource Officer (SRO), Officer Sam Gordon, is our October Golden Hornet Award recipient!

The Golden Hornet Award is a prestigious honor that recognizes staff members who consistently go above and beyond their call of duty, embodying the spirit of teamwork, dedication, and service. This award highlights individual achievements while fostering a culture of appreciation and recognition throughout our school community.

Although Officer Gordon just started at Wacona this school year, he stepped right in without missing a beat and immediately made a lasting impact on our campus. While keeping our school safe is his top priority, Officer Gordon goes far beyond his core duties every single day. He is always on the move, stepping in to help wherever and whenever he is needed - whether that is assisting with morning drop-off, monitoring hallways, or jumping in to help staff and students with daily routines.

What makes Officer Gordon truly special is the incredible heart he brings to his role. Beyond safety, he provides daily encouragement, guidance, and support to everyone around him. You will frequently see him greeting students with warm smiles, offering words of praise, and serving as a positive role model they can look up to and trust. His presence brings both security and comfort to our building, creating an environment where our students feel confident, safe, and valued. He has been a fantastic addition to our school, and we are so grateful to have him as a Wacona Hornet!

Thank you, Officer Gordon, for your dedication, your helpful spirit, and the care you show our school family every day.

🩺📚 Text Feature Surgery was a SUCCESS! 📚🩺

Our 3rd graders stepped into the role of “junior surgeons” as they performed text feature surgery! 🥼🧤 From identifying headings and captions to studying diagrams, labels, and other text features, students worked together to “transplant” text features and explain how each one helps readers better understand the text.

Learning is always more memorable when you can get hands-on! 🩺📖✨

🚒🔥 Learning About Fire Safety! 🔥🚒

Yesterday, our first graders had a fiery fun day learning all about fire safety with some of our local firefighters! 👩‍🚒👨‍🚒

Our students learned important safety tips, what to do in case of a fire, and got a close-up look at the equipment our firefighters use to keep our community safe. 🧯🚒

A HUGE thank you to our local fire station for taking the time to visit Wacona and help our first graders learn how to stay safe and be prepared! ❤️

We are so thankful for the brave men and women who serve our community! 👏🔥

🐝💗 Happy National Instructional Coach Day! 💗🐝

Today we are celebrating our amazing instructional coach, Mindy Pearson! 🌸☀️

Mindy is truly one of those people who makes Wacona a better place just by being here. She goes above and beyond every single day to support our teachers, staff, and students. Whether she’s helping a teacher work through a challenge, brainstorming new ideas, analyzing data, providing resources, modeling lessons, celebrating successes, or simply being someone our staff can count on! Mindy is always there! 💛

She has a heart for teaching, learning, and people, and it shows in everything she does. She encourages our teachers, helps us grow professionally, celebrates our students’ progress, and constantly looks for ways to make learning even better for everyone at Wacona.

Most importantly, Mindy has a way of making people feel supported, heard, and believed in. She reminds us that we don’t have to do it all alone. 💕

We are so thankful for all the time, energy, encouragement, knowledge, and heart that she pours into our school each and every day.

Wacona is so lucky to have you, Mindy! Thank you for being our biggest cheerleader, problem-solver, encourager, and teammate. We appreciate you more than you know! 🐝💗🌸

Happy National Instructional Coach Day, Mindy! We are so grateful for YOU! 💕✨

Please join us in celebrating Mindy in our comments!! She deserves to be shown all the love!!💗

👑💗💛 Once Upon a Time in the Kingdom of Wacona… 💛💗👑

What a wonderful time we had bringing the Wacona Kingdom to life for the Homecoming Parade! 🏰🐝 From our Queen reigning on her throne to our precious little princes and princesses, it was so much fun watching our vision come together and seeing our Wacona family enjoying the parade!

An event like this truly takes a village, and we are incredibly grateful for the businesses, organizations, and individuals who helped make our float and parade experience such a success.

🍬 Inmate Inbox and the NSPDK, Inc. Delta Zeta Chapter — thank you for your generous candy donations! Our Hornets had plenty of goodies to share along the parade route!

🎶 Scott Ray — thank you for providing the DJ services and keeping the Kingdom rocking throughout the parade!

👑 GG’s Decor and More — thank you Mrs. Veronica for the beautiful throne chair fit for our Queen!

🧵 Joy Comer with Elizabeth Sewing and Embroidery — thank you for creating the beautiful embroidered sash that completed our Queen’s royal look!

And, of course, a HUGE thank you to our Wacona faculty, staff, students, families, and everyone who helped behind the scenes. Whether you donated, decorated, built, carried, walked, danced, cleaned up, or simply cheered us on—you helped make the magic happen! 💗💛

We are so thankful for a community that continues to show up and support our Hornets. This is what makes Wacona so special! 🐝👑
