Cooking for Crowds: A Volunteer's Guide to Safe Food Handling-The Cooking for Crowds webinar helps nonprofit organizations and their volunteers understand risks involved preparing large volumes of food.

Preparing food in large quantities is different than food preparation in the home. "Cooking for Crowds: A Volunteer's Guide to Safe Food Handling" helps nonprofit organizations and their volunteers understand the risks involved with preparing large volumes of food and the important food safety practices that need to be implemented to ensure a safe event. Penn State Extension educators and other faculty serve as instructors and are certified by the National Restaurant Association. All have received training on the most current research on food safety.

Even if your organization has been preparing food for years, things change, and it is important that volunteers are up to date and knowledgeable about rules and regulations governing food safety. Don’t risk your customers’ health or your organization's reputation.

"Cooking for Crowds: A Volunteer's Guide to Safe Food Handling" was developed in collaboration with the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture.

Registrants are strongly encouraged to purchase the Cooking for Crowds Manual. See https://extension.psu.edu/cooking-for-crowds-manual for more information.

Biting Pests: Why Are There So Many Ticks?-Explore how centuries of human land-use choices—from farming to suburban growth—shaped the rise of tick-borne diseases and what this means for people, wildlife, and the environment.

From the earliest settlements to modern suburban expansion, human activity has continually reshaped the American landscape—often with unintended consequences. This session explores the historical and ecological factors that have contributed to the rise of tick-borne diseases, tracing how our land-use choices created ideal conditions for ticks to thrive. Through this case study, participants will gain insight into the complex relationship between people, the environment, and public health, and consider what these lessons mean for the future.

AgWorks: Employer Property and Privacy Rights for Employees-Learn about ag-gag laws and legal protections for agricultural operations, with opportunities to discuss real-world scenarios with attorneys.

Across the country, several states have enacted laws designed to protect agricultural employers from job applicants who misrepresent their background to gain access to agricultural facilities and employees, as well as from employees who secretly record and release videos of a facility with the intent to harm the agricultural enterprise. While Pennsylvania has not currently enacted such a law, this webinar will provide an overview of various enacted so-called "ag-gag" state legislation and how these laws work to protect agricultural operations. Additionally, the webinar will address how agricultural enterprises can benefit from trade secret protection and the use of non-compete agreements. Time will be held after the presentation for participants to ask legal questions and discuss real-world scenarios with attorneys. The Center for Agricultural and Shale Law provides educational support and resources only and does not offer legal representation.

This webinar is open to everyone at no cost, thanks to an AgWorks grant from the Pennsylvania Department of Labor and Industry. To help track grant reach and eligibility, participants will be asked questions about their farm or agribusiness during registration.
