🔥🔥PUBLIC NOTICE – CONTROLLED BURN🔥🔥

The Illinois Department of Natural Resources (IDNR) will be conducting a controlled burn approximately two miles northeast of Waynesville tomorrow morning, October 6, beginning at approximately 10:00 AM.

Residents and motorists are asked to avoid the area while the controlled burn is underway. Keeping unnecessary traffic out of the area will help ensure that fire and emergency vehicles have clear access should a situation arise requiring their response.

Smoke may be visible from Waynesville and the surrounding area during the burn.

Please use caution, avoid the immediate area, and allow IDNR personnel and emergency responders plenty of room to safely conduct operations.

Thank you for your cooperation.

🔥 FIRE PREVENTION WEEK | OCTOBER 4–10, 2026 🔥
This year’s theme is “Charge Into Fire Safety: Safe Charging Is a Superpower.” Fire Prevention Week focuses on everyday charging habits that can reduce the risk of lithium-ion battery fires in our homes and community.
Use your charging superpower:
🔋 Use the charger supplied or approved by the device manufacturer.
🔋 Charge devices on a hard, flat surface—not on beds, couches, or pillows.
🔋 Unplug devices once they are fully charged.
🔋 Stop using batteries that become unusually hot, swell, leak, smell strange, or make popping or hissing sounds.
🔋 Never place lithium-ion batteries in household trash or regular recycling; take them to an approved collection location.
🔋 If a battery catches fire, get outside, stay outside, and call 911.
Spread the word: smart charging choices can prevent fires and save lives!
