09/28/2026

As we move into fall, Wayne Township Fire Department wants to remind residents that Ohio’s seasonal outdoor burning restrictions begin October 1 and continue through November 30.
During this period, open burning is prohibited between 6:00 AM and 6:00 PM.
The seasonal restrictions are intended to reduce the risk of wildland fires during periods when dry leaves, grass, and vegetation make fire spread more likely.

Please remember that additional Ohio EPA open-burning regulations still apply outside the restricted hours. Certain materials are prohibited from being burned at any time, and other requirements depend on the location and type of burn.
Before you burn, take a few minutes to review the requirements:

If you have questions about whether a planned burn is permitted, contact the Fire Department before burning.

Please help us reduce preventable fires this fall. A few minutes spent checking the rules before burning helps protect your property, your neighbors, and our community.

CLARIFICATION REGARDING THE AUGUST 22 FIREWORKS DISPLAY

We have received questions regarding the legality of the fireworks display held near 5615 Lytle Road.

The display was legal and properly permitted. It was a privately hosted event conducted by an Ohio-licensed professional fireworks exhibitor. The required local approval and permit process was completed before the display.

The specific dates listed in Ohio Revised Code 3743.45 apply to the personal discharge of 1.4G consumer-grade fireworks. Those dates do not restrict professional fireworks exhibitions conducted by state-licensed exhibitors under ORC 3743.50 through 3743.55.

Ohio law requires a licensed exhibitor to secure a site-specific exhibition permit and receive approval from the appropriate fire and law enforcement authorities. Those requirements were satisfied for this display.

The Wayne Township Fire Department did not sponsor or produce the event. Our role involved reviewing the permit and applicable safety requirements.

We appreciate residents who reached out with questions and gave us the opportunity to clarify the difference between consumer fireworks and a licensed professional exhibition.
