These DSA folks are insane.
Florida Democrat Angie Nixon Calls for Jailing Her Republican Opponent Ashley Moody
Democratic socialist Angie Nixon, the far-left nominee trying to flip Florida’s U.S. Senate seat, told CNN she wants Republican Sen. Ashley Moody locked up and punished in jail.
In a Wednesday interview, Nixon unloaded on the former attorney general and judge, claiming Moody diverted $10 million from a Medicaid settlement meant for sick kids into political efforts tied to Gov. Ron DeSantis. She then went further.
“I want her locked up and punished in jail for what she has done,” Nixon said. “And so, you know, we are going to continue to stomp on this campaign trail all across the state from the Panhandle to the Keys, and we’re looking forward to them calling me Senator on November 3rd.”
When host Kasie Hunt pressed her directly—“You want your Republican opponent locked up?”—Nixon did not back down.
“You know, she, yeah, basically.”
The full exchange shows her doubling down: she described Moody as “a lying, cheating, thieving, scamming person” and confirmed she “absolutely” wants her jailed over the Hope Florida matter. A grand jury looked at the funds transfer, found issues with how the money was handled, but produced no charges. A court later wiped the report.
Nixon has made locking up Republicans a recurring theme. In February she posted that she “can’t wait until Donald Trump is arrested” and would “definitely vote to remove him” if elected senator. She has repeated versions of the line since.
This is the same candidate Republicans label a radical. Nixon is a Democratic Socialists of America member who won her primary in an upset over better-funded moderate Alex Vindman. She has faced attacks over DSA positions on prisons and policing; her defense is that she wants Moody behind bars instead. She was herself arrested earlier this year after a sit-in protest in DeSantis’s Capitol office, later resolving the misdemeanor case with a fine and community service.
Moody, appointed to the seat after Marco Rubio became secretary of state, is a former prosecutor and circuit judge who built a tough-on-crime record as Florida’s attorney general. Polling shows her leading Nixon by double digits with less than three weeks to go in a state that has shifted solidly red.
Nixon’s comments land as a clear signal of how she would approach the job if she somehow won: treating political opponents as criminals rather than debating policy differences. Florida voters will decide on November 3 whether that approach belongs in the Senate.
