Nearly $500,000 in federal funding will help SWOSU make healthy food and care easier to access for pregnant women and new mothers in western Oklahoma.

Abagail Walker (left) will lead the Maternal Produce Prescription Program with Dr. Kalie Kerth as its rural health advisor. Women in six counties will receive help purchasing fruits and vegetables, guidance from a dietitian and help finding care and resources for their families.

“We want to meet women where they are, reduce some of the barriers they may be facing, and make sure they feel supported throughout pregnancy and postpartum,” Walker said.

SWOSU students are helping document Oklahoma’s wildlife! During two trips to Beavers Bend State Park, they worked alongside faculty and researchers to identify species, record observations and prepare specimens for natural history collections. 🐸

This is part of learning biology at SWOSU: opportunities to do research, meet specialists and contribute work that others can study. The specimens and observations students collected will also support future study through the SWOSU Natural History Museum.
