MAMA DOE NURSES her FAWNS on a misty morning

I love it when the clouds surround the mountain. The softness and evenness of that atmosphere works like a photographer's light-box. I'm so thrilled this sweet whitetail deer family swung by so close to my cameras during these weather conditions. And I love how not one, but two fawns came xto nurse on their patient Mama. How sweet!!!!

fwiw, when driving through clouds at night, I'll sometimes call it, "driving through ghosts." Somehow, that makes the event even more adventurous-feeling than it already is, particularly when those ghosts are so dang thick, you can't move faster than a couple MPH without risking your life!

🐻 🐝 🛁 THE BEAR and THE BEES in the RUB-A-DUB-TUB!!

This guy must have just raided an underground wasp nest and those pesky things followed him all the way to the tub. When I first previewed this footage in the field, I loved how it looked like he was just marveling at the sky and at the occasional milkweed seed flying by. But, upon closer inspection, and with a hint of audio, it became quite apparent he was still being badgered by a bunch of angry bees. LOLOL!
What a good sport he is!

LOOK WHAT I FOUND!! 🤣🐻
Remember how the bears had absconded with TWO of my garden hoses and a rubber ducky -- on separate occasions?
I found where those rascal-bears left them on one of my Helene-stricken trails. Cracked me up!!!!
Hope this gives you a smile.

EDIT: — I take that back about not needing to go to Lowes after all! Turns out both hoses are so bear-tooth-perforated, I could barely clean & fill the tubs tonight. When I turned the water on, it looked like I was holding my own water-fountain show up here on top of the mountain. Ha! So yeah - I’m going to have to get a new hose. But this time, I’ll store it in the van in-between Rub-a-Dub-Tub cleanings.

(And apologies for continuing to be mostly AWOL! There's no shortage of awesome footage -- I just haven't managed to get things ready for you all yet. I'll get back into the swing of editing and posting again, eventually. I'm still juggling a bunch here, but it's mostly all good! -- Aside from tax prep for the accountant, that is. That's one of my least favorite annual tasks. Ha.)

Bear in the tub!
Waaaaaay down the driveway.

Sorry for being a bit AWOL lately. Having mostly fun these days, but I’m very behind on a bunch of important projects, including editing critter videos.

I just recorded this video a minute ago from the shed porch, so I figured I’d show it to you, to give you some perspective on how far the Rub-dub-Tubs are from my house. (That’s how far my well is from my house, too! And that’s how I fill the tubs — from the spigot down at the well. The bears trashed the garden hose again and it’s kinda beyond patching so I already have a replacement hose ready to go.)

Lots more to come. I just need to finish my tax prep first. *yawn*

🥹🐻🥲 MAMA BEAR NURSES HER HUNGRY CUB

Another sweet moment from their April 14th visit. If you listen closely you can just barely hear the cub's contented "purring" sound over the roar of the machinery in the valley below.

Unfortunately, I haven't seen this cub in months now. Although I think I may have seen the Mama Bear without the cub. I fear the worst for the little one, but will just hope to be happily surprised by a return visit.

Sorry for being relatively AWOL lately. Just been juggling lots here on the homefront.

My buddy Mike knows better, but for some reason, he left his truck unlocked with windows open while he was working on grading an upper section of my driveway. Maybe he thought the heavy machinery would scare away the bears? Nope! Bear scored a nice lunch out of that oversight.
At least the windows weren’t closed so the bear didn’t get locked inside! Unfortunately, I think this happened just out of view of my trail cameras. I would have loved to capture that footage!
