A New Face In The D.A.R.E. Classroom

We are excited to share that Officer Holcombe has completed D.A.R.E. school and will be joining the Webster City Police Department’s D.A.R.E. program this school year!

D.A.R.E. (Drug Abuse Resistance Education) teaches students skills to help them make safe choices, resist peer pressure, and build healthy relationships. The program offers curriculum for different age groups helping students navigate challenges and make responsible decisions as they grow.

Investigator Thumma has been teaching D.A.R.E. to our 5th grade students, and Officer Holcombe’s addition brings another instructor to the program this school year.

We’re looking forward to another great year of D.A.R.E. in our schools!

The Webster City Police Department recently had the opportunity to host a K9 training day with K9 teams from several area agencies.

Officer Lehman and K9 Chad put in a lot of work helping organize and lead the training with teams working through tracking, building searches, traffic stops, and other real world scenarios. It was a great day of training and sharing experience with other handlers and agencies.

A big thank you to Hy-Vee for providing food, Karl Chevrolet for the vehicles, the Hamilton County Fair Webster City, Iowa for the use of their space, and Webster City Parks & Recreation for providing the park.

We appreciate everyone who helped make the training day possible, and we're proud of the work Officer Lehman and K9 Chad continue to put in.

Please join us this October in recognizing Tanner Nowell and Officer Ciara Sturm for their continued service to the Webster City Police Department and our community.

Tanner is celebrating his 10-year anniversary with the Webster City Police Department. As our Administrative Assistant, Tanner is an important part of the work that happens behind the scenes each day. From keeping the department organized to handling the many administrative responsibilities that keep things moving, his work helps our department run smoothly and allows our officers to focus on serving the community.

Officer Sturm is celebrating her three-year anniversary with the Webster City Police Department. As a patrol officer Ciara plays an important role in keeping our community safe and is often one of the first points of contact between the department and the people we serve. Over the past three years she has continued to grow in her role and has demonstrated a commitment to serving the Webster City community.

We are proud to have both Tanner and Officer Sturm as members of the Webster City Police Department. We appreciate the hard work, dedication, and commitment they have shown throughout their time with our department. Thank you both for your continued service to our community!

SEE TRACKS? THINK TRAIN® WEEK - STAY SAFE AROUND THE TRACKS

As we wrap up National See Tracks? Think Train® Week remember that railroad safety is for everyone.

Whether you're driving, walking, or riding a bike, stay alert around railroad crossings. Use designated crossings, obey signals and gates, and never go around a lowered gate.

Railroads have been part of Webster City's history for generations. As we enjoy that history let's also remember to stay safe around the tracks that remain part of our community today.

See Tracks? Think Train. Every time.

SEE TRACKS? THINK TRAIN® WEEK - KNOW YOUR CROSSING

If something goes wrong at a railroad crossing, do you know what to look for?

Find the blue and white.

The blue-and-white Emergency Notification System (ENS) sign provides the railroad’s emergency phone number and the crossing identification number, helping the railroad quickly locate the crossing.

If your vehicle becomes stuck on the tracks:

• Get out immediately and move away from the tracks.
• Find the blue-and-white ENS sign and call the number listed.
• Provide the crossing identification number.

If you can't find the sign or have another emergency, call 911.

For more railroad safety information visit Operation Lifesaver Inc.
