The Webster Groves Fire Department is joining mutual aid partners for a live burn exercise at the Central Core Training Tower in Shrewsbury.

Captain Mike Smith says firefighters are coordinating various types of fire attack, simulating a garden style apartment with retail space on the ground level.

The joint exercise is an opportunity to practice radio communication, incident command, and assignment of responsibilities along with training on equipment.

Mutual-aid departments may be called to the same structure fire, so crews need to be prepared to operate as one coordinated team.

The Central Core Training Division is comprised of Brentwood, Clayton, Maplewood, Richmond Heights, Shrewsbury and Webster Groves.

September is Firefighter Appreciation Month.

Thank You to the dedicated firefighters who show up for Webster Groves every day – ready to serve, protect, and help our neighbors when they need it most.

Whether they’re answering an emergency call, visiting a school, attending a neighborhood event, or simply lending a helping hand, their commitment to Webster Groves goes far beyond the firehouse.

The “B” shift crew is led by Battalion Chief Nick Hercules.

The Webster Groves Fire Department joins the Central Core Training Division (CCTD) to prepare for live fire training.

Battalion Chief Nicholas Hercules says crews are reviewing different stretches for apartment-style fires.

A stretch is the process of pulling, deploying, and laying out a fire hose from a water source to the fire entry point.

In the first evolution, firefighters are dropping a hose line over the side of the roof to make a connection with the engineer on the truck to supply the fire attack.

For the second stretch, crews advance through an interior stairwell with the hose line.

Modern multi-story buildings feature a standpipe system for easier setup and faster response in fire suppression.

You may have seen the Webster Groves Fire Department in your neighborhood testing fire hydrants.

Hydrants are essential for fighting structure fires, providing a reliable and continuous source of water.

The Fire Department is asking for your help to keep hydrants free of obstruction, including landscaping, shrubs, plants, fences, decorative items and other objects.

The hydrants throughout Webster Groves are owned and maintained by Missouri American Water. Each hydrant is painted with a special reflective coating for visibility in nighttime emergencies. Hydrant colors also indicate the size of the water main and the volume of water available.

Please take a moment to check the hydrant near your home and make sure it has plenty of clearance. Keeping hydrants visible and accessible is a simple way residents can help our firefighters respond quickly and safely.

Captain Salvo Parenti provides this update with assistance from Firefighter/Paramedic Dane Mohrmann and Brandon Swenson.

First responders in Webster Groves are launching a new initiative designed to improve communication and safety for drivers with autism.

The Blue Envelope Program is free and completely voluntary. Participants keep a distinct blue envelope in their vehicle’s glove compartment or visor. The envelope holds a driver’s license, vehicle registration, and proof of insurance along with a communication card to assist during a traffic stop.

Each program participant will receive an alert sticker for their home and a sensory bag with several items, including a dry erase board, headphones, a stress ball, and fidget spinner.

The Webster Groves Fire Department will also carry sensory bags on all apparatus for individuals who may not be part of the Blue Envelope Program.

The unit trains for static and swift water emergencies, including flash floods along Deer Creek and Shady Grove Creek.

Three Webster Groves firefighters participated in training this week on the Missouri River at St. Charles. Matt Lanemann, Dane Mohrmann, and Alec Montgomery learned the basics of operating a Zodiac Milpro inflatable boat and rescue techniques through high intensity drills on the river.
