Wildfire season is a reality of life in Northern California, and preparing our homes, neighborhoods, and community is one of the most important ways we can protect lives and property. The City of W**d is partnering with the Mount Shasta Bioregional Ecology Center to host a free Wildfire Education Event that provides residents with practical information, local resources, and opportunities to connect with neighbors who share a commitment to community resilience.
The event will be held on June 20, 2026, from 12:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the W**d Library, located at 150 Alamo Avenue. Community members will learn about wildfire preparedness, defensible space strategies, fuel-reduction assistance programs, and the steps to establish and participate in a FireWise neighborhood. Whether you are a homeowner, renter, business owner, or simply interested in helping strengthen community safety, this event offers valuable information tailored to our local needs.
Attendees will have the opportunity to meet with wildfire preparedness experts, ask questions about reducing fire risk around their properties, and learn about available assistance programs that can help make mitigation projects more affordable and achievable. The event is also an opportunity to build relationships with neighbors and develop a coordinated approach to protecting our community from future wildfire threats.
Food and refreshments will be provided by the Community Fire Resiliency Program, making this a welcoming, family-friendly gathering for all residents.
Wildfire preparedness is most effective when communities work together. By taking proactive steps today, we can help ensure a safer and more resilient future for W**d and the surrounding region. We encourage all residents to attend and take advantage of this free educational opportunity.
