Over the past several days, Officer McGue has had the opportunity to share his expertise as an ATV instructor with officers from the Mashpee Wampanoag Police Department and Mashpee Police Department. Through this training, several officers from these agencies completed their ATV certification, adding another valuable skill to their toolbox and expanding their ability to serve their communities.

Training together and sharing resources allows departments to expand their capabilities and gives officers additional tools to better serve their respective communities whether that's responding to calls, assisting someone in a difficult-to-reach area, or simply being there when people need help.

For small agencies especially, cooperation makes us stronger. When departments share knowledge, training, and experience, everyone benefits and ultimately, so do the communities we serve.

Congratulations to all of the newly certified ATV operators! Your commitment to training and expanding your capabilities is an investment in the people you serve. We’re proud to work alongside our partners at the Wampanoag Police Department and Mashpee Police Department and look forward to continuing to learn, train, and support one another.

Different agencies. Different communities. One shared goal: helping people.

Beginning Monday, October 26, the Wellfleet Police Department will be conducting the fourth session of our Citizen's Police Academy at the Wellfleet Police Department on Gross Hill Road. Participants will be introduced to the various aspects of the police profession, as well as the criminal justice system.

The academy will begin with a behind-the-scenes tour of the Wellfleet Police Department, followed by an introduction to criminal investigations, specialty units, use of force, and fi****ms. Participants will also learn about the use of body-worn cameras, ATVS, motorcycles, and other specialized equipment.

Throughout the academy, participants will have the opportunity to meet and interact with many members of the Wellfleet Police Department. The class is limited to 12 participants to provide an engaging, hands-on experience and maximize interaction between participants and department personnel. With the ongoing changes and developments in law enforcement, both previous participants and those interested in attending the Citizen's Police Academy for the first time are welcome and encouraged to participate. This is a unique opportunity to learn more about modern policing and the role of law enforcement in our community.

Applications are available at the front desk of the Wellfleet Police Department or contact Sergeant Paul Clark at 508-349-3702 or [email protected] with any questions or to request that an application be emailed to you.

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and this month gives us an opportunity to come together as a community to support an important cause that has touched so many lives.

Throughout October, Wellfleet Police officers are authorized to wear their pink patches as a way to show support for breast cancer survivors, those currently facing the disease, their families, and everyone who has been affected by breast cancer.

We are proud to wear these patches not only as members of the Wellfleet Police Department, but as members of the community we serve. A small symbol can carry a meaningful message of hope, strength, support, and remembrance.

If you would like to join us in supporting this great cause and would like to purchase a Wellfleet Police Department Breast Cancer Awareness Patch, please stop by the police department or contact Officer McGue for more information at [email protected]

Thank you to everyone in our community who continues to support those affected by breast cancer. Together, we can make a difference.

**Tip-A-Cop for Special Olympics**

Yesterday, despite the impending Nor’easter, our community showed up in a big way!
The Wellfleet Police Department had a fantastic and successful Tip-A-Cop event benefiting Special Olympics Massachusetts .

Even with the wind and rain, members of our community came out to support an incredible cause. We are so grateful to everyone who stopped by, donated, and helped make the event such a success.

A big thank you to the staff at The Pearl for their incredible hospitality and support. We truly appreciate everything you did to help make this event possible, and we are grateful for our continued relationships with local businesses such as yours.

Thank you to our officers, volunteers, and everyone who braved the weather to support Special Olympics athletes. Your generosity and community spirit truly made a difference.

Thank you from the entire Wellfleet PD team!

This is a message from Chief Kevin LaRocco and the Wellfleet Emergency Management Team.
We are continuing to monitor the coastal storm. Based on the most recent weather update, the worst of the storm is expected to occur on Saturday and continue throughout the day. We are expecting damaging winds, possible downed trees and power lines, and heavy rainfall that may cause flooding.

Please stay away from any downed power lines and assume that all downed lines are energized. Please call 911 to report any downed power lines.
Due to astronomically high tides, heavy surf, strong winds, and predicted heavy rainfall, the oceanside beaches have been closed for public safety reasons.

Extra staff have been added to all public safety and town departments to assist if necessary.
If you lose power, please contact Eversource at (800) 592-2000. Police Dispatch will not have information regarding power restoration. Call 911 for any life-safety emergencies, including downed live wires.

Wellfleet Police, Fire, DPW, and Harbormaster are coordinating preparations and will provide additional updated information as it becomes available. Please use caution, stay informed, and avoid unnecessary travel during the storm.

STORM UPDATE

A large, slow-moving coastal storm is expected to impact the area from Friday through early next week. While the exact track and impacts are still subject to change, current forecasts indicate the potential for:

Strong Winds: Gusts around 60 mph are possible along the coast, with the potential for 65+ mph gusts on Cape Cod and the Islands, particularly Saturday. With trees still fully leafed out, the risk of downed trees and power outages is elevated.

Heavy Rain: Periods of rain will develop Friday and may become heavy Friday night into Saturday. Current estimates suggest 3–5 inches of rain are possible, with locally higher amounts depending on where the heaviest bands develop.

Coastal Flooding: Strong onshore winds may result in coastal flooding, particularly around the overnight Saturday and Saturday afternoon high tides. The extent of flooding will depend on the storm's eventual track and timing.

Forecasts are still evolving. The storm's track may shift, which could significantly affect local rainfall, wind, and coastal flooding impacts.

Residents should continue to monitor updates from the National Weather Service and be prepared for difficult travel, downed trees, power outages, and possible coastal flooding.

The Wellfleet Police Department will continue to provide updates as more information becomes available. Stay safe and stay weather-aware.
