ORIGINAL POST: Our Grizzly is down again at the Dryden Transfer Station.

We cannot take any garbage until noon on Thursday, Oct. 22.

We are open for brush drop off and recycling.

Hopefully (fingers crossed), this is our last repair until our replacement Grizzly arrives late next week. As a reminder, we are closed for household and commercial garbage drop-off from Oct. 31 through Nov. 6. The transfer station will be open regular hours during the planned closure for brush and recycling.

CLOSURE COMING: The Dryden Transfer Station will be closed for household and commercial garbage drop-off from Oct. 31 through Nov. 6.

The transfer station will be open regular hours that week for brush and recycling only. The facility will reopen to full services on Saturday, Nov. 7.

During the closure, a contractor will be installing a new Grizzly, or the grapple that grabs the garbage and loads it into trucks for the landfill. The Grizzly is a vital piece of equipment at the facility. It costs $350,000 and is being paid for with county funds.

THIS WEEK: Today, the Entiat crew is doing shoulder work on Entiat River Road, between mileposts 1 and 2. Lower your speeds if you come upon the crew working.

On Tuesday, the Cashmere crew will be removing trees early in the day on Olalla Canyon Road, at milepost 4.25.

Oct. 20-21, crews will be removing more trees on Mission Creek Road, at milepost 3. During tree removal, the roadway is at one lane with flaggers directing traffic. Plan for minor traffic delays. Cashmere crews will also be mowing and cutting brush across the district.

On Oct. 21, the Chelan crew will be installing a new culvert under the roadway on Cagle Gulch Road, at about milepost 0.85. The road will be closed to traffic from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. No one will be able to get through – from both above the closure and below it – during that time. We expect to have the culvert installed in that time frame.

In the Leavenworth District, the crew will be ditching and brushing on Chumstick Highway. The work requires one-lane, flagger-controlled traffic. Plan for minor traffic delays.

In the Chelan District, the crew also will continue ditching and shoulder work on Cooper Gulch, Chapman and Swartout roads in Manson. And in Wenatchee, the crew will be ditching upper routes.

Join us Oct. 22 at the Manson Grange for a discussion about pedestrian safety in Manson. We will host an open house at 5 p.m., when we will give a Safe Routes to School project presentation.

We will also hold “walking audits” at 4:30 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. These are opportunities for open discussions while we walk along Totem Pole Road with you, listening to your concerns. We want to hear what you think are the priority walking routes and what preferred safety features you’d like to see for Manson students walking or biking to school. ROAD ALERT: Wapato Way, from Totem Pole Road to Pedoi Street in Manson, will be closed from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 17, for Manson Harvest Fest. Use alternative routes around the closure.

Beaver Hill on Chumstick Highway near Plain opens at 5 p.m. today.

Our contractor has some guardrail to install yet today and some minor roadwork before the opening. Paving is complete. The photo of guardrail installation is from Wednesday.

What does this mean for next week?

Plan to see one-lane, flagger-controlled traffic through the Beaver Hill area next week. Plan for minor traffic delays as flaggers work to get people through the work zone safely. Hurst Construction will be finishing up the project next week.
