Strong communities start with people working together. Today, we're proud to recognize our first responders and thank them for their continued dedication to serving and protecting the people of St. Charles County.

🚒🔥 That’s a Wrap on Fire Prevention Week! 🔥🚒

All last week, Wentzville Firefighters visited 12 elementary schools throughout our community, teaching 2nd graders important fire safety lessons through fun, hands-on activities!

Our young learners practiced:

🚨 When and how to call 9-1-1

🏠 Home escape plans, two ways out, and family meeting places

🔊 Smoke alarm safety and crawling low under smoke

🛑 Stop, Drop & Roll

👨‍🚒 Firefighter gear and why firefighters aren’t scary

🚒 Exploring our fire trucks, tools, and equipment

A huge THANK YOU to the schools, teachers, and students for welcoming us and making this week such a success!

👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Parents, keep the learning going! Ask your kids what they learned and take time to practice your family’s fire escape plan.

Fire safety starts with education! ❤️🚒

After 33 years of dedicated service, Captain Steve Hayes has officially retired from the Wentzville Fire Protection District!

Captain Hayes began his career with the WFPD as a volunteer firefighter in 1993, was hired as a paid firefighter in 1995, and promoted to Captain in 1998. Throughout his career, he served on numerous committees, mentored fellow firefighters, responded to thousands of calls, and played an important role in representing our firefighters through his work with the IAFF.

Thank you, Steve, for everything you've given to Wentzville Fire and the community you served so well. Your leadership, dedication, and commitment will leave a lasting impact on this department.

Congratulations to Steve and Sarah as they begin this next chapter together! Enjoy your retirement!

Sometimes a rescue call turns into something a little more. ❤️

A couple of weeks ago, FF/Medic Grassmuck crawled down into a sewer to rescue a kitten whose front paw was stuck in a crack. It took a hammer, some careful chiseling and a whole lot of patience to get him free.

Apparently, that rescue created a pretty special bond… because Monday, Grassmuck brought him home. 🐱❤️

"Dart" is still recovering from his injury, but he's already putting weight on his leg and acting like a kitten should. For now, Grassmuck will be keeping a close eye on him and making sure he gets plenty of TLC while he heals.

From a dark sewer on a Monday night to a warm home a couple of weeks later — not a bad ending for this little guy.
