Scattered storms will slowly increase in areal coverage across southeast Iowa, west central Illinois and far northeast Missouri through 2 AM. Small hail, heavy downpours and wind gusts up to 40 mph are possible from the stronger storms.

10/13/2026

The calendar says it's October, but it felt more like summer with highs in the mid to upper 80s on Monday. These high temperatures were some 20 to 25+ degrees above normal and record-breaking in some locations.

10/12/2026

Increasing storm chances are in the forecast for Tuesday evening into Wednesday morning. Some isolated severe storms are possible, with large hail and damaging winds being the main threats. Areas along and south of Highway 30 is the area to watch for this severe potential, but this risk area could still change. Keep up with the latest forecasts for updates!

10/09/2026

While the fields may be muddy, the crops have been able to dry with the warm temperatures and sunny skies today. Warm, dry, and windy conditions are expected tomorrow, meaning fires could spread easily. Use caution while harvesting this weekend and take a fire extinguisher with you.

10/09/2026

An area of thunderstorms is moving through southeastern Iowa early this morning. These storms should continue towards west-central Illinois and northeast Missouri later on. While severe storm potential is low, some hail up to the size of quarters is possible. If outdoors in these areas, be ready to seek shelter ahead of the storms.

Army to hold open house on planned controlled detonation at Iowa am******on plant

U.S. Army officials at the Iowa Army Am******on Plant will hold a public open house on Oct. 15 to discuss plans to dispose of degraded lead azide through a controlled detonation at the Middletown installation in November.

The open house will be held from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the Army Reserve Center, 17879 Highway 79.

Army officials said technicians discovered a quantity of degraded lead azide, a highly sensitive primary explosive, during a routine stockpile surveillance operation. The material may have become unstable, and officials determined transporting it off-site would pose an unacceptable risk of accidental detonation.

Instead, specialized explosive ordnance disposal personnel will neutralize the material on-site through two rapid, controlled detonations. The operation will follow Environmental Protection Agency regulations.

The Army plans to conduct air and soil monitoring before, during, and after the detonations. Environmental teams will also assess groundwater and the surrounding area following the operation.

The detonations will take place during daylight hours and only under favorable weather conditions. The operation will be delayed if low cloud cover could increase acoustic or physical shockwaves.

Residents in Middletown should expect loud noises and ground vibrations during the detonations. Because of the potential for localized window damage or other impacts, the Army recommends residents in the Middletown City Park neighborhood temporarily leave the area during the operation.

The Oct. 15 open house will be an informational walk-through instead of a formal presentation. Residents can view maps showing the expected blast radius, review safety precautions, and speak with EOD technicians, environmental scientists, and Army installation officials.

What a beautiful day to put preparedness into action! ☀️

Our countywide emergency management exercise was a success, bringing together agencies, partners, volunteers, and community organizations to test our plans, strengthen coordination, and build an even stronger response for our community.

Exercises like this are so important because they allow us to learn, improve, and work together before a real emergency occurs. We are incredibly grateful to everyone who participated and helped make the day such a success.

A special THANK YOU to Dingus Transport Services, Walmart, Scooters, and Burlington Notre Dame School for your support and partnership. Your willingness to participate, provide meetings space, fuel ☕️ and help our community prepare does not go unnoticed!

We also want to thank the community for your patience and understanding throughout the exercise. We know exercises like this can cause some temporary inconveniences, and we truly appreciate your cooperation as we work to improve our preparedness and response capabilities.

We are proud of the teamwork, dedication, and commitment demonstrated throughout the exercise. Together, we are better prepared, more resilient, and stronger as a community. 💙

Thank you to everyone who helped make this a successful day of preparedness!
