Varner-Hogg Plantation State Historical Site Docents and Volunteers

The purpose of our organization is to assist Site Personnel with events and educational programs. Our mission is to support the operations, maintenance and educational programs of Varner-Hogg Plantation Historical Site by providing guided tours and the promotion of the site. With the automated world of today, an emphasis on social media and changing in teaching methods, it has become more and more apparent our country’s great history is being “left behind” by the masses. This is of great concern to us. Varner-Hogg Plantation, a 66-acre holding complete with an antebellum Plantation House, outbuildings, extensive tree groves, original oil wells and home of our 20th Governor, James Hogg, is located at the edge of West Columbia and was donated by Ima Hogg to the State of Texas. Our volunteers span many ages and generations, come from all areas of Brazoria County and the Houston area, and are proud to contribute in a small way of keeping our fantastic history alive. As our organization grows we are seeking volunteers who share our love of history and are willing to assist in many different ways. If you are interested please contact us at [email protected] or messenger us through Facebook. We are looking forward to seeing you soon!
