Durham Fire responded to this motor vehicle collision early this morning, that involved a small passenger car and a semi truck. One occupant was transported to Maine Medical Center in serious but stable condition. Route 136 was shut down for a few hours to investigate and for clean up. The investigation is being conducted by our partners at the Androscoggin County Sheriff's Office.

Fall weather is here and as the temperature decreases, woodstoves & fireplaces are being fired up across town. However, Durham Fire has seen an increase in heating-related & chimney fires, including several in the past three days.

We would like to offer some tips to prevent your home suffering a heating-related fire:

- Burn dry, well seasoned firewood in a purpose built wood-stove or fireplace.
- Keep anything that could catch fire away from the stove or fireplace.
- Get your chimney inspected annually and cleaned as needed.
- Ensure you have functional smoke and CO detectors.
- Finally, if you suspect you may have a chimney fire, please call 911 for help.

2ND ALARM STRUCTURE FIRE

This morning at approximately 03:00, Androscoggin County Communications took a report of a garage fire connected to a residence off of Stieg Road.

Upon arrival, Durham Car 2 reported fire showing from the garage and extending to the house, as well as fire from a vehicle that had been moved to the street. A second alarm was quickly struck, pulling numerous mutual aid resources from outside our commonly utilized area due to a simultaneous 2nd alarm fire in New Gloucester.

There were no injures to the occupants or firefighters. The home is considered a total loss. The Maine State Fire Marshal's Office is investigating the cause of the fire.

At approximately 02:15 this morning Durham Fire was requested to Lewiston Road to assist New Gloucester Fire Rescue with a structure fire. Durham Engine 22 and Car 1 responded and provided assistance with overhaul on scene.
