The Strykersville Volunteer Fire Company, Inc. is mourning the loss of 65-year member, Charles Minkel. Charlie supported our organization in so many ways throughout his many years of service and dedication to our department and community.

We ask that you keep Charlie, his family and friends and our members in your thoughts and prayers during these difficult days.

Rest in peace Charlie. We thank you for everything you did for us, we’ll carry on in your memory.

*exhales from exhaustion*...

It’s happened again folks!!!! Two more new additions to the family!!!

First we have Violet Ray Wohlfeil, the second granddaughter of our late president David Wohlfeil born this year. She is the daughter of past member Garrett and his wife Clara.

Second we have Rosalyn Tryon, the daughter of social members Maddy and Nick Tryon.

Both babies are beautiful and healthy!!!

Join us in welcoming two more wonderful additions to the West Falls Family!

As much as we are enjoying this baby boom, we have hit our limit for the year.
Keep an eye out for the spring, word is we have another little one coming in March!!!

The New York State Legislature has passed legislation (S.6233-A / A.6790-A)( was passed by the New York State Assembly on May 14, 2026, and by the New York State Senate on June 1, 2026) to quadruple the personal income tax credit for active volunteer firefighters and ambulance workers.

Key Details of the Bill:
Individual Filers: Increases the tax credit from $200 to $800.
Married Joint Filers: Increases the tax credit from $400 to $1,600.
Effective Date: Set to begin with the 2026 tax year (upon signature).

Additional Benefits:
Removes restrictions that previously prevented volunteers from receiving both the state income tax credit and local property tax exemptions at the same time.

Goal:
Aims to combat severe staffing shortages and aid in the recruitment and retention of volunteer emergency personnel.

Current Status:
The bill successfully passed both the New York State Assembly and the Senate. It currently awaits review and signature by Governor Kathy Hochul to officially become law.

Why? What's the hold up?

Sign the Bill into Law!
