💙 Mental Health Matters — Especially for Our Youth 💙

As Mental Health Awareness Month comes to a close, we want to take the time to remind you that mental health awareness starts with open conversations, compassion, and a willingness to listen. For teenagers experiencing mental health challenges, having someone who listens without judgment can make a meaningful difference.

We'd like to make our community aware of a special book signing & discussion on Teenage Mental Health featuring Rich Sc*****er, author of the powerful memoir 92 Hours.

📚 Book Signing & Discussion on Teenage Mental Health
📅 Friday, November 6, 2026
🕐 1:00–3:00 p.m.
📍 University Bookstore
360 West State Street, West Lafayette, IN

As a law enforcement agency, we recognize that mental health challenges can affect individuals and families in every community. Increasing awareness, reducing stigma, and encouraging meaningful conversations are important steps toward ensuring that young people feel heard, supported, and connected to resources when they need help.

💙 Let’s continue working together to build a community where mental health matters and asking for help is a sign of strength.

🏅 WLPD Earns Reaccreditation!

We are proud to announce that the West Lafayette Police Department has officially earned reaccreditation through the Indiana Law Enforcement Accreditation Commission (ILEAC)!

Accreditation is a rigorous process that involves a comprehensive review of our policies, procedures, training, and operations to ensure we meet established professional standards and best practices in law enforcement.

More importantly, reaccreditation provides independent confirmation that we are doing what we should be doing: serving our community with professionalism, integrity, and accountability.

This achievement reflects the hard work and dedication of our entire department, both sworn and civilian, and our continued commitment to earning the trust and confidence of the community we serve.

Courage. Integrity. Service. Community.

🚔 **Teamwork at its FINEST!** 🚔

When it comes to keeping our communities safe, teamwork makes all the difference!

This morning, deputies with the Tippecanoe County Sheriff's Office responded to a residential alarm and discovered a burglary in progress. Deputies quickly established a perimeter and requested assistance from WLPD , Battle Ground Police Department. and a Lafayette Police Department K9 unit.

WLPD officers put technology to work, using a tactical drone to search much of the home's interior while a second drone provided an aerial view of the exterior.

As officers prepared to enter the home with the K9, the suspect suddenly emerged from a hiding spot and attempted to flee. Unfortunately for the suspect, officers were already in position outside and quickly took the individual into custody!

👏 **Three agencies. One team. One successful outcome.**

This is a great example of how strong partnerships, coordinated tactics, and innovative technology help us protect the communities we serve.

Great work by our partners at TCSO,
BGPD, and LPD, and our WLPD officers!

TRAINING EXERCISE NOTICE | THERE IS NO EMERGENCY

Beginning at 9 a.m. today, October 2, the West Lafayette Fire Department and SK hynix Construction Safety Team will conduct a simulated fire training exercise near Fire Station 3 and the SK hynix construction site.

During the approximately 1 to 1.5-hour exercise, people in the area may see simulated smoke and notice increased emergency vehicle activity. The first responding emergency vehicle will use lights and sirens as part of the simulation.

No road closures are planned. Motorists should be aware of possible temporary lane shifts on Yeager Road near the fire hydrant being used for the exercise and watch for emergency vehicles entering and exiting the area.

WLPD will also have informational message signs near the SK hynix site advising motorists that the activity is part of a training exercise.
