The City of West Memphis joins our community in mourning the loss of Dr. Scott Ferguson, a respected physician, former Arkansas State Representative, Chairman of the West Memphis Advertising and Promotion Commission, and longtime business, civic, and philanthropic leader.
Dr. Ferguson dedicated much of his life to serving others. From caring for patients and families throughout our community to representing our area in the Arkansas Legislature, his commitment to making a difference extended far beyond his medical practice.
As the son of former West Memphis Mayor Joyce Ferguson, he continued a family legacy of public service. Through his leadership, generosity, and dedication to improving our community, Dr. Ferguson helped shape the West Memphis we know today.
His contributions to healthcare, economic development, public service, and countless community initiatives will be remembered for generations to come.
West Memphis, Crittenden County, and the entire State of Arkansas are better places because of Dr. Ferguson’s life, leadership, and service.
On behalf of Mayor McClendon and the City of West Memphis, please join us in extend our deepest condolences to the Ferguson family, his friends, colleagues, and everyone whose life he touched.

In Memory of Mrs. Cherilyn Minnis

The West Memphis School District mourns the profound loss of a beloved educator, colleague, mentor, and community treasure, Mrs. Cherilyn Minnis.

For 58 remarkable years, Mrs. Minnis devoted her life to educating, loving, encouraging, and nurturing generations of children in the West Memphis School District. She believed in her students and challenged them to believe in themselves—to dream boldly, reach higher, and recognize the potential within them. For countless students, she was more than a teacher; she was a source of encouragement, wisdom, compassion, and love.

Her impact reached far beyond the classroom. She touched the lives of students, coworkers, families, and community members through her unwavering dedication and genuine care for others. The lessons she shared, the lives she influenced, and the love she so freely gave will continue to live on in the hearts and lives of those fortunate enough to have known her.

For her students, there will always be memories of a teacher who believed in them. For her coworkers, there will be the memories of a cherished colleague whose presence made a difference. For her family and loved ones, there is the immeasurable loss of someone whose love and devotion extended far beyond her profession. And for our entire community, there is the lasting legacy of a woman who gave 58 years of her life to serving others.

While her passing leaves a tremendous and immeasurable void, the legacy Mrs. Minnis leaves behind is one of love, service, education, compassion, and unwavering dedication. That legacy will continue through every student she encouraged, every life she touched, and every person who carries forward the lessons she so generously shared.

We extend our deepest prayers, love, and heartfelt sympathy to Cherith, the Minnis family, her former students, her colleagues, and all who are grieving this tremendous loss. May you find comfort in the countless lives she touched, strength in the memories you hold dear, and peace in knowing that her life's work made a lasting difference.

Rest well, Mrs. Minnis. Thank you for your years of love, service, and dedication. Your work mattered. Your life mattered. Your legacy will never be forgotten.

Superintendent Eric Foister
