💧 Water Conservation Update:

Thank you, West Memphis, for your help with our recent request to temporarily reduce nonessential water use.

We’re pleased to share that WMU has been able to rebuild our water surplus. During recent hot periods, we were losing ground each day as water demand remained high. The community’s response to our conservation request helped us recover and put our system in a stronger position.

Hot periods are always challenging for water systems because demand increases significantly. At this time, we feel confident in our ability to make it through additional long, hot periods while maintaining reliable water service.

We also want to clear up a few questions we’ve seen:

• There has never been a boil order associated with this request.
• There is no water crisis.
• Our drinking water is safe.
• Google’s Data Center project did not contribute to the need for this conservation request.

This was a preventative measure. We saw our water surplus declining and chose to take action before it became a larger issue. That is exactly how we want to manage our system: monitor conditions, identify potential concerns and take steps early to protect reliable service.

Thank you again for helping us take that preventative step. Your cooperation made a difference. Happy Sunday! ❤️

💧 MORE INFORMATION: Preventative Water Conservation Request

West Memphis Utilities is asking customers to temporarily reduce nonessential water use during peak daytime hours. This is a preventative measure to help maintain adequate water levels, give our tanks an opportunity to recover overnight and help keep our water system operating reliably.

We are constantly monitoring our system and looking for ways to address potential issues before they become service disruptions. This request is simply one of those proactive steps.

Here are a few ways you can help:

• Run sprinklers and irrigation systems at night when possible.
• Run washing machines and dishwashers at night instead of during peak daytime hours.
• Limit unnecessary or high-volume water use during the day.
• When possible, avoid activities that require large amounts of water during peak hours.

Even small changes can make a difference when many customers participate. By shifting some water use to overnight hours, we can help our tanks recover and put our system in a better position to maintain reliable service for everyone.

We’ve also seen questions about whether this request is related to the data center. It is not. This is a preventative water system measure based on current system needs and our responsibility to plan ahead and protect reliable service for our customers.

As part of the data center project, Google will recycle WMU’s wastewater for use in its cooling system. This means wastewater that would otherwise be discharged can be treated and reused for cooling rather than relying as heavily on drinking water for that purpose. It also creates an additional use for our reclaimed wastewater.

Thank you for helping us take this preventative step and doing your part to conserve water. 💙
