Today at 13:52 we were toned out to a reported structure fire in the Ice Rink in the Palisades Mall. First arriving units found smoke coming from the ice rink and found a fire in the ceiling. Our crews stretched one line, knocked the fire down quickly, and checked for extension. Units were on scene for about an hour. Thank you to our mutual aid:
Central Engine Company #6
Blauvelt Vol Fire Company
Pearl River Hook & Ladder
Excelsior Engine Company
RPS / RMC

Today marks 25 years since the attacks on the World Trade Center in Lower Manhattan.

This post is dedicated not only to all of the victims and first responders, but also to our neighbors and fellow Rockland County residents who were lost that day and in the years that followed.

We also wanted to specifically honor those who served right here in Rockland County as volunteer first responders with local fire departments and EMS agencies. Many of them also served as first responders in New York City. Among those we remember are:

Calixto “Charlie” Anaya Jr.
John G. Coughlin
Welles R. Crowther
John D’Allara
Thomas J. Foley
Andrew A. Fredericks
Frederick J. Ill Jr.
Gregory R. Sikorsky
Thomas G. Schoales
Harry Wanamaker Jr.
Joseph R. Stach Jr.
William V. Harris Jr.
Steven Robert Dizzine
Daniel R. Foley
Frederick S. Simms Jr.
Pieter C. Grosbeck
Ross T. Dailey II
Alexandra Kahermanes-Schwartz

This includes WNFD’s Danny and Tommy Foley, who, like so many others on this list, dedicated their lives to helping others.

They will never be forgotten.

We cannot fathom that our community is finding itself here once again—mourning the loss of another beautiful soul far too soon.

Jamie was a light to so many. A devoted mom to Kensie and Kellan, a loving wife to Kevin, and a deeply loved sister, family member, and friend.

After an incredibly courageous 12½-year battle with cancer, Jamie passed away. There are simply no words for what Kevin, Kensie, and Kellan are facing as they begin life without her.

Once again, our hearts are broken for a family we love. And once again, we are reminded of what makes this community so special—the way we come together and take care of each other.

The Rail Trail Café will be selling online gift cards to support Jamie’s family, with 100% of the proceeds going directly to Kevin, Kensie, and Kellan. If you are unable to purchase gift cards online, they will be available for purchase in the store as well.

Fundraiser will run through this Friday.

The Blauvelt Volunteer Fire Company mourns the loss of Jamie O'Connell, wife of firefighter Kevin O'Connell.

Losing Jamie after her brave 12.5-year fight with cancer is heartbreaking. She was a loving mother, wife, and friend whose spirit touched so many. This fundraiser is just getting started, and sharing helps so much in these early days. Even if you can't donate, a quick share can help it reach others who may want to support her family during this difficult time.

🔥🪓This past Sunday, WNFD had the rare opportunity to participate in live structure fire training alongside the Spring Valley, Hillcrest, and Monsey Fire Departments. Firefighters trained in one of the most realistic environments possible, practicing search and rescue techniques along with fire suppression operations.

Thank you to the Hillcrest Fire Department for hosting this outstanding training opportunity.
