𝐅𝐥𝐨𝐫𝐢𝐝𝐚 𝐑𝐞𝐝𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐥𝐨𝐩𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐖𝐞𝐞𝐤 | Project Spotlight: The Spruce 🌿

In Northwood Village, The Spruce is bringing new housing opportunities and investment to one of West Palm Beach’s most distinctive neighborhoods. The eight-story, mixed-use development features 270 residential units, including income-restricted workforce and affordable housing, along with ground-floor retail and a range of amenities. The project was made possible through a public-private partnership between the West Palm Beach CRA, the City of West Palm Beach, Palm Beach County, and Affiliated Development, with CRA investment and tax-increment financing helping bridge the funding gap for workforce housing.

Now open in the heart of Northwood Village, The Spruce is adding housing options for the people who help keep West Palm Beach moving while bringing new residents, retail activity, and energy to the neighborhood. From its 8-story mural and rooftop amenities to its connection with the surrounding Village, The Spruce demonstrates how strategic redevelopment investment can create housing opportunities while supporting the continued vitality of an established community.

𝐅𝐥𝐨𝐫𝐢𝐝𝐚 𝐑𝐞𝐝𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐥𝐨𝐩𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐖𝐞𝐞𝐤 | Project Spotlight: Palm Beach Lobsters 🦞

In Northwood Village, a 95-year-old historic building has found new life as the home of Palm Beach Lobsters & Seafood, a locally owned, family-run seafood business rooted in Palm Beach County’s fishing heritage. The West Palm Beach CRA provided targeted assistance through its Relocation/Development Incentive Program, helping the business overcome site and development challenges, make improvements to the property, and establish its first brick-and-mortar location at 2501 N. Dixie Highway.

Founded by a father-and-son team of commercial divers and fishermen, Palm Beach Lobsters brings a true ocean-to-table experience to Northwood Village, while contributing to local job creation, economic activity, and the continued revitalization of the corridor. It’s a great example of how redevelopment can preserve the character of a place while creating opportunities for local businesses to grow.

𝐅𝐥𝐨𝐫𝐢𝐝𝐚 𝐑𝐞𝐝𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐥𝐨𝐩𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐖𝐞𝐞𝐤 | Project Spotlight: The Sunset Lounge 🎷

Few projects capture the true spirit of redevelopment like the restoration of the Sunset Lounge. Built in the 1920s, this jazz-era landmark once hosted legends like Count Basie, Ella Fitzgerald, and Louis Armstrong during a time when African American artists were barred from mainstream venues, making it a cornerstone of the Historic Northwest's cultural legacy.

The Sunset Lounge underwent a major transformation of redevelopment led by the West Palm Beach CRA, with construction delivering a two-story expansion featuring a restaurant, rooftop bar, and state-of-the-art event space. The completed project expanded the building’s functionality while preserving the historic jazz-era character and architectural significance of this iconic West Palm Beach landmark.

Now home to the Soul in the City Jazz Experience, the Lounge stands as a true full-circle moment: a space once nearly lost to time, reborn as a living cultural anchor for generations to come.

𝐅𝐥𝐨𝐫𝐢𝐝𝐚 𝐑𝐞𝐝𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐥𝐨𝐩𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐖𝐞𝐞𝐤 | Project Spotlight: Fantasy Island 🌴

Approved by the CRA Board in 2021, the transformation of a historic building in the Historic Northwest into Fantasy Island shows preservation and small business development working hand in hand. The $1.8 million build-out turned the property into a vibrant mix of owner-occupied residential space and a Caribbean and Spanish fusion restaurant, complete with an indoor/outdoor bar and seating for 150 — all while protecting the historic scale and character of the surrounding neighborhood. Fantasy Island is now a key part of the district's revitalization, bringing food, culture, and entertainment to a neighborhood built on legacy, and proving that redevelopment can honor a community's past while creating new reasons to gather in its future.

𝐅𝐥𝐨𝐫𝐢𝐝𝐚 𝐑𝐞𝐝𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐥𝐨𝐩𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐖𝐞𝐞𝐤 | Project Spotlight: The Padel Club 🎾

Situated on Dixie Hwy next to Pleasant City, The Padel Club brought the first stand-alone padel facility in Palm Beach County to West Palm Beach that includes three outdoor courts, one indoor court, and a clubhouse built for community as much as competition.

The CRA proudly provided a $100,000 Relocation and Development Assistance Grant to help convert a once vacant building along Dixie Highway into this premier recreational sports facility, turning an underused property into a hub of energy for the community. From morning matches that turn into afternoon clinics to charity events with WPB police, the Padel Club has become a true gathering place, proof that redevelopment isn't just about buildings, it's about bringing people together.

𝐅𝐥𝐨𝐫𝐢𝐝𝐚 𝐑𝐞𝐝𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐥𝐨𝐩𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐖𝐞𝐞𝐤 | Project Spotlight: NORA

Once an overlooked stretch along the FEC rail line, the NORA District (North Railroad Avenue) has become one of the most exciting transformations in West Palm Beach's urban core. With Phase 1 now complete, this 40-acre mixed-use district has turned restored historic warehouses into a walkable destination for dining, retail, wellness, and creative office space, bringing new energy and nearly two dozen local and national tenants to a part of downtown that had been left behind for decades.

The WPB CRA has been a key partner in the project's momentum, investing through its Real Estate Development Accelerator program and committing to tenant build-out grants to help shape a diverse, homegrown business mix alongside the new development.

NORA is a clear example of what strategic public-private partnership can do: turning underutilized land into long-term value for the whole community.

𝐅𝐥𝐨𝐫𝐢𝐝𝐚 𝐑𝐞𝐝𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐥𝐨𝐩𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐖𝐞𝐞𝐤 | Project Spotlight: Heart & Soul Park 🎷

Right across from the historic Sunset Lounge, Heart & Soul Park stands as a proud symbol of what redevelopment can mean for a community. Opened in 2021 at 825 N. Rosemary Ave in the Historic Northwest, this music-themed park was designed to celebrate the rich cultural heritage of the neighborhood, from the Heritage Trail's history stations and inlaid artwork to shaded gathering spaces built for the community to come together. It's more than a park. It's a tribute to a district that shaped the sound of a generation, and a promise of what's still to come.

This , we're celebrating the projects that honor the past while building the future. 💛
