🎃👻 HALLOWEEN SAFETY TIPS FROM THE HOWELL COUNTY SHERIFF'S OFFICE! 🚔🍬

Halloween is a time for costumes, candy, and spooky fun, but the scariest thing about Halloween should be the decorations—not preventable accidents!

As families across Howell County prepare for trick-or-treating, the Howell County Sheriff's Office would like to remind parents, children, and motorists to take a few extra precautions to ensure everyone has a safe and enjoyable Halloween.

🚶 TRICK-OR-TREATERS: WALK SAFELY!
🎃 Always use sidewalks and crosswalks when available.
🎃 Look left, right, and left again before crossing the street.
🎃 Put phones and electronic devices away while walking.
🎃 Never run into the street or cross between parked vehicles.
🎃 If sidewalks are unavailable, walk facing traffic and stay as far to the left as possible.

👨‍👩‍👧 PARENTS: KEEP YOUR LITTLE GHOSTS AND GOBLINS SAFE!
🍬 Children under 12 should always have adult supervision.
🍬 Older children should travel in groups and stay in familiar, well-lit neighborhoods.
🍬 Remind children never to enter a stranger's home or vehicle.
🍬 Inspect Halloween treats before allowing children to eat them.
🍬 Establish a planned route and return time for older children.

🦺 MAKE SURE COSTUMES ARE SAFE!
👻 Add reflective tape to costumes and candy bags.
👻 Carry flashlights or glow sticks to improve visibility.
👻 Choose face paint instead of masks that may obstruct vision.
👻 Make sure costumes fit properly to prevent trips and falls.

🚗 DRIVERS: SLOW DOWN AND STAY ALERT!
⚠️ Reduce your speed in residential neighborhoods.
⚠️ Watch carefully for children at intersections, driveways, and between parked cars.
⚠️ Avoid distractions, especially cell phones.
⚠️ Turn headlights on early to increase visibility.
⚠️ Be especially cautious during popular trick-or-treating hours, typically 5:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.

🚨 DID YOU KNOW?
According to national pedestrian safety research, children are more than twice as likely to be struck and killed by a vehicle on Halloween compared to other days of the year.

A few extra seconds of caution could save a life.

School Resource Officer Deputy Rodney Harper works incredibly hard to build positive relationships with our Glenwood students and families. When Journee and Lucas were looking at the list of incentives they could choose from when cashing in their PBIS tickets earned for good behavior, they chose to spend them on donuts with Deputy Harper! The fact that they chose to spend their hard-earned tickets on spending time with Deputy Harper is a testament to the impact he has on our students! You also see it every single day at parent drop-off in the morning and parent pick-up in the afternoon when he interacts with students and parents. Again, we are proud to be a part of the Operation Relentless Pursuit program. Here is a statewide update on the positive impact the program is providing.

Here's an Operation Relentless Pursuit case from last week that netted seven illegal guns from a felon who wasn’t even officers’ original target. ORP officers arrested a 62-year-old man on a child po*******hy warrant from the state of California. New charges are now pending because child s*xual abuse images were allegedly found on a device during his arrest. And, in the same location, ORP officers found and arrested a 43-year-old man with ties to California on seven new felony counts of being a felon in possession of a fi***rm. Each man has a prior history of murder in California.
The ORP team of Missouri State Highway Patrol troopers and Missouri Sheriffs' Association deputies continues to produce outstanding results in what is now its 82nd week of operations!

🎃🚔 HALLOWEEN SAFETY NOTICE – HOWELL COUNTY SHERIFF'S OFFICE 🚔🎃

As Halloween approaches, the Howell County Sheriff's Office is committed to helping families make informed decisions and keeping our children safe while trick-or-treating.

In an effort to promote public awareness and child safety, the Howell County Sheriff's Office is publishing a list of registered s*x offender residential addresses throughout Howell County, organized by city and identifying offender tiers.

⚖️ MISSOURI LAW – RSMo § 589.426

*Under Missouri law, individuals required to register as s*x offenders must comply with specific restrictions on October 31:

*No Halloween Contact: Registered s*x offenders must avoid all Halloween-related contact with children.

*Remain Indoors: Registered s*x offenders must remain inside their residences between 5:00 p.m. and 10:30 p.m., unless they have a justifiable reason to leave, such as employment or a medical emergency.

*Outdoor Lighting: All outside residential lighting must remain off after 5:00 p.m.

PARENTS AND GUARDIANS:
We encourage families to review the attached address list before heading out for Halloween activities. Accompany younger children, remain aware of your surroundings, and remind children never to enter a stranger's home or vehicle.

The information is being shared for public awareness and safety purposes. Please remember that not every residence in a neighborhood is listed, and everyone deserves to be treated respectfully.

🚔 HOWELL COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE – PRISON TRANSPORT

On Wednesday, October 21, 2026, the Howell County Sheriff’s Office transported three individuals to the Missouri Department of Corrections.

Tony Fox – Courtesy transport for Shannon County.

Raymond K***z – Sentenced to 5 years in MDOC following probation revocation for 2nd Degree Burglary and Possession of a Controlled Substance. Sentences will run concurrently, with a court recommendation for a 120-day program.

Jacqulyn Lytton – Sentenced to 4 years in MDOC following probation revocation for felony Stealing ($750 or more).

The two male individuals were transported to the Fulton Reception and Diagnostic Center, while the female individual was transported to the Women's Eastern Reception, Diagnostic and Correctional Center in Vandalia.

🏠 RENTAL SCAM ALERT

The Howell County Sheriff's Office is warning residents about a rental scam recently reported to our deputies.

Scammers are taking legitimate real estate listings from websites such as Zillow and other property listing platforms and reposting them on social media, including TikTok. These individuals are falsely advertising homes that are listed for sale as rental properties in an attempt to collect fraudulent deposits from unsuspecting individuals.

The fraudulent advertisements often include actual photographs taken from legitimate real estate listings. However, the contact phone numbers provided are not associated with the property's listing agent or authorized representative.

To ensure the property is actually available for rent or sale, it is recommended to look up the property on a real estate website such as Zillow or other popular real estate websites for verification. Scam accounts typically have a generic business name with a phone number but lack a physical office address and agent name.

Keep an eye out for AI-generated logos. Generally, a real estate company will list its office address and its broker or the agent operating the account and will have a professionally designed logo.

If you find these scam accounts or posts on social media, please report them to that app's support team using their reporting process. If you or someone you know has paid money to a scammer that has listed a "for sale" house as a rental, please contact local law enforcement to make a report.
